AG2 - Democracy rules the world

IHT: Decide to send the settler from Factory to go grab the iron (there's already a Russian galley in view and we don't want to lose it !). Send the spear with it as an escort in case of barbs, so Washington contributes a spear of its own to Settler Factory. Swap Chicago and Miami over to workers. Lux to 10% for one turn to keep SetFac happy.

On second thought, I swap Seattle and SF over to workers too.

975 BC (1) Washington worker - spear. Chicago worker - temple

Babylonians build the Great Wall.

I decide to ditch the Monarchy run (we're supposed to go for a representative government anyway ;) ). Then buy CoL from the French for 215 gold and 3gpt, then sell it to the Germans for Philo and 3g. I start a min sci run on republic (we'll hopefully be able to trade for it before it ends though !).

925 BC (3) I needn't have worried about the Russians poaching our iron as they found a city more to the south first. English boot us out; the settler coming back moves in the right direction but we can forget about bringing back the conscript - he's disbanded lest we piss off the English any further.

900 BC (4) English, Babs start Sun Tzu. Found Houston next to the iron.

875 BC (5) We get the FP message, English start HG.

850 BC (6) Our scout in French lands spots a Dutch sword. Settler factory produces, you guessed it, a settler but it starts on another worker next.

825 BC (7) Found Buffalo downriver from Washington.

800 BC (8) Settler Factory worker - settler.

775 BC (9) Found St. Louis to the East of Settler Factory, only barely beating a French settler pair there. Mao demands and gets 20 gold.

750 BC (10) French extort us too. Spears arrive in Seattle and San Francisco, another one heads for St. Louis. Boston temple - worker.

Furs from Philly will be online in 2 turns, the ones from Frisco might take a little longer but we'll be able to sell them to the English in a couple of turns by building a road out of Boston. With the end of the previous tech deal we now make 27gpt - a twofer might still be possible as Germany only has Construction over us. The other civs are up that and Lit, Currency, Republic, Monarchy and Feudalism at least. I would however say we're in pretty decent shape if it hadn't been for the Dutch war which might come back to haunt us. I suggest we end it ASAP before they buy in anyone who actually can hurt us.

Oh, and here's the save :).

Looks like a good turn Jack! I'll see what I can do regarding tech deals. I agree with disbanding that warrior.

EDIT: I'll play tomorrow. Good to see that we have a lot more workers now! Also nice that Russia and France are picking good spots for us to conquer and use as excuse to get cheap techs :hammer:

I can buy currency for 23 gpt. I think it's worth it for the marketplaces alone. Construction is important as well, because it will bring us in the MA and aquaducts allow more free military in republic (size > 6 cities support three units instead of 1).

Buying Republic is still out of the question (doubtful).

EDIT2: I suggest two more cities (to the north west) before we start building marketplaces and other useful improvements/military. Is that OK with you all?

As long as you're sure we have enough gold left over after buying currency to 2fer it with the Germans.....

There's one settler currently in production - I figured it'd be best to use it on a town S of Washington. If we can still grab a tundra spot after that one's finished, by all means go for it.

IHT: France gives us the best price for Currency: 22 gpt. Germany now sells us Construction for 7 gpt and 8 gold.
Germany got Feudalism as free tech, but other civs also already have Feudalism AND Engineering. That's a good things, because it will not speed up the tech speed even more. We are broke now and have to wait for a new opportunity to trade techs. Meanwhile I lower tech speed to 0%.

Peace with the Dutch is absurdly expensive (8 gpt), so not yet.

IT: The Dutch finish ToA. They come with Medieval Infantry which is still far away from us.

Turn 1 (730 BC) Scientist hired in Chicago. The city just grew and can afford it for a while.

IT: Germany finishes Zeus, China finishes the Great Library. Babylon and Russia start Leo. A Dutch galley in sight. This is BAD news :(

Turn 2 (710 BC) Washington: worker->marketplace. Philadelphia: temple->worker. Buffalo: warrior->worker. Two furs connected, but Settler Factory is needing 10% lux still for two more turns.

IT: England demands 4 gold. I give it naturally. The Dutch drop of a settler combo [party]

Turn 3 (690 BC) I decide to remain at war after such good news. We would have to give away a city!

Settler Factory: settler->marketplace. Renamed to New York after having served it's purpose. Boston: worker->barracks.

Turn 4 (670 BC) Lux to 0%. 3 gpt.

IT: Atlanta: temple->worker. Houston: warrior->worker.

Turn 5 (650 BC)

IT: Germany demands 6 gold. OK.

Turn 6 (630 BC) New York requires 10% luxury (+4 gpt)

IT: Philadelphia: worker->barracks. Buffalo: worker->market. They all start Leo now, except for the Germans.

Turn 7 (610 BC) No AI has Monotheism, but we are in no position to profit.

IT: French finish Hanging Gardens.

Turn 8 (590 BC) Detroit founded. Starts warrior. The price for peace with Holland drops. I decide to wait, because losing war weariness will get us into a deficit.

IT: The Germans finally kick our scout out.

Turn 9 (570 BC)

IT: A Dutch longbow comes out of Lauwersoog, the city to our west  The Russians send in a warrior :hmm: Ther Gemans are also going to war. A lot of troops block the route for our scout!

Turn 10 (550 BC) I finally make peace with the Dutch for 4 gpt and 8 gold. New York swaps scientist with Philadelphia, to keep luxury at 10%.
All the AI except Germany knows Monotheism now. Germany learned Republic :( but lacks knowledge of Mono and Engineering.

I stopped settling. We now should build up our commerce, hope for trade routes and get some military as well before long. And -oh- build the FP. The AI has a couple of tasty cities to the west. Ideal for us to profit :)

550 AD save

In the end, it looks like the war with the Dutch wasn't that bad ;) .

We surely did profit from it, but it could have gone either way. The AI could have ganged up on us. We could easily make peace with the Dutch, but what if the English were drawn in?

I admit it was risky! Since I found out about war happiness (about a year ago), I have used this quite a lot. If a far away AI wants stuff: tell him to back off.

In SGs I see I take more risks than others. I have seen people building walls.... Walls are not in my book: waste of shields.

PreTurn - Check out all deals, deal with France expires next turn (3gpt), Others are France (10 turns, 22gpt), Germany (10 turns, 7gpt) and Dutch (20 turns, 4gpt). We are running +5gpt and have 17gold. All civs in a republic except Germany who are Feudalistic. Inspection shows that both Babylon and China own German Slaves :satan: All civs are Mono, Feud and Engineering up on us (not to mention, Lit, Monarchy and Republic) Germans are only Feud and Republic up on us.

IBT - Dutch longbow continues into our lands.

Turn 01 (530BC) - Some worker stuff, pretty dull.

IBT - Russians complete Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Turn 02 (510BC) - Washington market -> spear. Spear from washington goes to Detroit. Detroit warrior -> barracks.

IBT - Babs, Dutch, Chinese, English and French are all building Leonardos.

Turn 03 (490BC) - Those lovely English connect us to England and Babylon by road. Cant buy any tech with furs yet, so I wait.

Turn 04 (470BC) - Washington spear -> spear.

Turn 05 (450BC) - Atlanta worker -> worker. Houston worker -> worker. Second Furs connected. OK here we go. Sell Furs and Horses to babylon for 20gpt and 2 gold. Buy Engineering from England for 37gpt, 50 gold and furs.

Turn 06 (430BC) - Sell Engineering and 1gpt to germany for Republic. Suggest we dont revolt until we stop paying those 2 deals to Germany and France. Washington spear -> spear. We now make +1gpt. Iron road completed.

IBT - Babs completes Leonardos. Dutch complete Knights Templar. Babs wander a Pike/Med Inf stack down towards Germany.

Turn 07 (410BC) -

Turn 08 (390BC) - Washington spear -> spear. New York Market -> temple (can be changed to FP?). Germans now have lit and Feud more than us. Everyone else Feud, Lit, Mono, Monarchy and I guess Chivalry and Invention. Single scientist reinstated on Feud.

IBT - French building sistine. English, Russian and Chinese settler pairs near our lands. Dutch settle Enschede near Houston.

Turn 09 (370BC) - Boston barracks -> market. Checking some stuff it says that Babs betrayed the English? Also Dutch betrayed the babs? Also france betrayed the babs? Also we know the Russians have Knights?

IBT - French complete Sistine.

Turn 10 (350BC) - Washington spear -> temple. Deals with France and Germany end. We have +33gpt. I now revolt for republic, we pull 8 turns of anarchy and are at -22gpt! Pull everyone I can off work and into taxmen, we now do +6gpt.

Apologies for the next player.
8 turns of Anarchy is gonna be real dull.

I feel awful about both these moves but we are Soooooo far behind it seems and I was feeling a little sad :(

Also Stapel?

I never build walls or reg troops too, you are not alone.

Well, I think our perspective is rather ok, but not too easy.

Eight turns of anarchy is baaaaaaaad!

up here, too?

170 BC -
150 BC - Dutch want 23 Gold.
