There used to be an age/ICQ faq, but I can't find it now. Has it gone west? Only interested to find out if i'm still the second oldest declared age on fanatics:).

Where have you been, Algernon? haven't seen you around for a long time. :)

The Age/ICQ FAQ should be *somewhere* in the OT. Maybe an OT regular can give you more info on its whereabout...

Hi TF,

good to see you are still going strong. I found this thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3008
but cornmaster's link is no longer working. Is he still around?
There was an older thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2736
but its list is very out of date.

I might just bump one of them and see what happens.

By the way don't look too closely at my return. I'm already getting into all sorts of arguments. would you believe there are people on this forum who don't vote for Hedrix first last and always:)

How about an age+IQ rating, thoses with higher combined scores are free to cyber torture thoses with lower scores.

Lefty,
you are not taking this seriously enough; look at this:

I'd need an IQ of nearly 30 to match Eclectic99's age alone!!!! Even you would struggle in that league:)

I'll bet the six youngest fanatics can't even make 81 between them.

I warn you the older generation are taking over!!

My combined score is over 200, even with a real IQ measurment rather than those internet tests that inflate you ego to the turn of 20 to 50 points.

On topic there are fields in the profile for this info, including for three common instant meesenger, plus a biography field for any misc info. I see that you have not entered your ICQ into your profile.

TF,
Cornmaster very kindly mailed his list. I don't have facilities or the time to manage it. But just in case someone wants to build on it I attach it now. Perhaps you should seek a volunteer on one of the age threads.

Lefty,

What's the difference between ICQ and IQ?:D

I can't enter what I don't have. All this clever internet stuff is still too much for my old-fashioned brain.

Another problem with your masterplan: people would lie about their IQ:)

Besides, all those in USA etc. would probably have to get a metric conversion:D:D!

I've noticed that most people don't fill in any age data, until they are tempted to boast about it in O/T threads.

I haven't taken any IQ test. Are those tests reliable? What kind of questions do they ask on the test? And where can I take it? ;)

IQ tests measure certain kinds of comprehension and reasoning abilities by means of logical questions usually concerning word, shape or pattern relationships. They claim to thus measure intelligence. Personally, I don't think intelligense is quantifiable in that sense and the tests are very poor at measuring potential.

I did a couple at school and since then I have also done a whole raft of "aptitude tests" in the computer industry. I have satisfied myself that I have more aptitude for those kinds of tests than for things more practical like programming:).

There used to be great debates about cultural bias inherent in the tests because, among other things they relied on language to explain themselves to participants. For my part I think there is a much worse bias that cannot be isolated based on the fact that everyone sees things differently, right from whether such tests are interesting in the first place to whether a particular pattern or shape or idea comes more naturally to one person than another.

There is normally a time element for completion also and that is a problem because although speed of thought is in some situations an asset, there are many situations where longer consideration leads to better results, at least for most people.

Such tests tend to focus on single unrelated problems whereas life is a complex tangle of interwoven threads.

Thanks for the explanation, Algernon.

I just want bragging rights, because I see people mention IQ pretty often. :D

Iq tests only test certain potential you have ,withought actually being a determent of how "wise" you are.One can be very good at implementation ,analysing ,or pure "mathematical thinking". (i can say the dutch word for this ,but i don't know the english word for it ,it's "redeneren")

In any way ,it doesn't mean that one that will score high on a Iq test ,will automaticly have much social or political knowledge. There is also someting as EQ (emotional quotion) ,and most of the times people with extreme high IQ's will have certain psychological "malfunction" that make them not good on EQ tests.Like Dyslectic people or Autistic people. Most of the greatest minds the world have ever known have some of those genious diseases.

I myself have a pretty good IQ ,not extrordinairy.Though i am Hyperkinetic ,and my brother is Dyslectic.I score a bit low in certain parts of an IQ test in comparison to my average wich is high enough ,but i score Extremely high on the anylisation part.I am extremely good in searching sollution's to whatever sort of problem's ,i can brainstorm better than almost everybody ,i can have lot's of good idea's where nobody thought of before ,but i'm very bad in basic thing's like managing paperwork ,paying attention to what my oppion's says to be boring thing's ,i have a very bad sense of time ,i can be very impulsive and i genneraly don't function very good in a team.I myself have to work myself into an enviroment where i can use my creative and analysing potential ,and where my negative thing's arn't that much critisized. My brother has lot's of trouble's with paperwork to ,basicly because he can't write normally ,though he is very smart.

All in all ,there are times that i wished to be normal ,though i can see the advantage's to my "disease" against the disatvantage's.But i would'nt be to keen to take this disease if i had the choice when i was born.It has been a source for a lot of problem's in my past.Though i like the creative potential that i have ,people at my job respect me for the wondefull idea's that i can sometimes bring in ,out of the blue.

It's not very hard though to find genious people ,there are lot's of them ,way more than you would think. The strange thing is that the smarter you are ,the bigger the chance is to fail in the profesional life because of the brain malfunction's you have due to that intelligence.
You would be surpirzed how many cleaning lady's are Geniuoses.

The thing I find about IQ tests and their unreliability is that they don't take into account different kinds of intelligence.

I took a test once that divided my "intelligence" into sections, I aced the logic and problem solving sections only to blow a couple others. It averaged out to a better then usual score but I'd hardly call it a true measure of my or anybody elses overall smarts.

Example: I've met people who couldn't tell me what numbers come next in this pattern. . .2,4,6,8. . but have jobs I couldn't handle and I'd trust their opinion on almost anything. On that same note, I've met people who solve problems where I didn't even understand the question but I can't trust their opinion on anything BUT problems like that.

Lefty, you were much too lenient on that poster for threadjacking. Should be at least a 3-day banning!

Awsome! :) I just got a whole stash of ICQ/AIM/MSN usernames for people that would be cool to contact online. Now only if they came online...
