Fellow civfanatics,

Had a very disheartening communication from my wife - a person 43 years old enjoying PC games like Civ IV is weird ! It is very unusual for an Indian of that age which I am.

I want to be able to show her a loonnnng list of guys who are nearly as old or older so that she withdraws her statement. So please post here the same to help me. If there are any Indians (of similar age, of course), it will all the better !

Can't help you on nationality as I'm Canadian, lived in Europe since 1974, played since the start of Civ 1 (18 years, I think). I'm 61. My partner's 63 (thoughshe only plays adventure games, poor thing!
Know what you mean, though. Sometimes, when browsing this forum, I feel ancient (historically speaking).

Indian is better but any person similar or older helps. Thanks to u too.

I feel sorry for you man, most people in my country who still play Video Games at the age of forty are unmarried and basically have no life outside "CounterStrike1.6!!". Trust me, you're in heaven.

I'm still 19, long way to go.

Hi again, B.C. Gotta stop meeting this way. Is it our avatars or maybe our
politics? Hope works it out. As part of a game-playing partnership, guess
I'm in heaven too.;) ;)

Guys????
I'm a woman, I'm 58 years old and I simply love playing CivIV.:D
Children left the nest, no grandchildren yet born, finally I have playtime!
But, I'm norwegian, so I can't help you with nationality.

Your message helped me the most .. lol .. I could counter my wife effectively.

In India, the word "guys" is also used to address a gathering of people including both men and women so it is not a sexist expression, if you understand what I mean.

So glad I could help ;)

No offense taken. :)
I know it's common to use that expression in english, I just wanted to point out that I'm female since your wife thought a man of your age should not play Civ.
My next door neighbour, a woman in her 30ties, also plays Civ, and she has a teenager still living at home.

So play on, and teach your wife how to play :)

I am 39, playing civ since 1991 (so, for 17 years now). Polish, married for 15 years. My wife also doesn't like my playing but I she has to live with it :)

I'm 36. I learned how to program computers when I was 10 years old, back in the winter of 1980. I have been playing games on the computer since.

I am playing fewer video games the past few years, since I volunteer to help with various community projects, like Habitat for Humanity and local food drives, etc. Civ IV is the last game I play, and I don't spend much time with it anymore. (I find it more fun to be social... life's too short to play video games by myself all the time.)

My dad has Chippewa heritage, from Sault Ste. Marie, up in northern Michigan/Ontario... Indian, but not "East Indian". My mom has Aztec and Mayan blood (Mesoamerican Indian!), so she's Mexican Indian.

Sorry, if you need someone with East Indian blood, I have none... Indian Native (or First Nations, as I hear those Canadians say) is as close as I get. :)

I'm 43, married with three kids. I've been playing PC games for years. I started with Civ III and switched to Civ IV when it came out. My wife looks at it as my hobby. She says she is glad that I'm not like some of her friends' husbands, who are frequently out of the house playing golf or hanging out at bars with their buddies.

I actually agree with your wife, I think people who are in their 30s or older (like me) playing PC games is definitely weird... but I just learn to live with my weirdness. My wife doesn't like my playing either, so what. I don't like when she hassles me about the dishes.

My 46th birthday is next week and I already know what I am getting, because my wife bought me Beyond the Sword. Last year she bought me Civ 4, with Warlords. She's 49 and plays a variety of computer games herself, but mostly "girlie" stuff.

I'm Tennesseean, she's English, but we've lived in Dubai for 35 years beween us, so we know India quite well. We would never suggest that a can of kerosene and an "accidental kitchen fire" would solve your problem, because that would be a really sick joke.
