age of Civ IV players

I'm 23 and I'm playing Civ(started with Civ2) for a little more than 10 years now.

still have civI and civnet on the shelf. been playing since the beginning. now 50. you're never to old for games

didn't mean i was still playing civI. although that might be interesting after all these years.

60, played Civ since II (still the best of serie). Playing ocasionally also Alpha Centauri.

Age 57. I agree with you about Civ II, but when I think about it, I believe the thing I miss is being able to score a gazillion points. Haven't been able to do that with III ot IV. Being a glutton for punishment, I also like to play golf. Civ is a lot like golf. You can become good, but you will never master it.

I just don't understand what age has to do with it. It's a hobby just like any other. I play civ, call of duty, railroads, oblivion, space empires, midieval II, neverwinter nights. online i play guild wars and wow. do i need to go on? I still keep a p100 with dos and win95 in the corner for the old school stuff. the d&d gold box editions were and still are some of the best games ever made. IMO

But I cant understand, why wives are natural enemy of civ players?
I think Sanjay is correct in saying that they want you to focus on them rather than on a hobby. Their criticism, which I have experienced, is not without merit. Civ devours time.

Me.... 48, male and American.

To add to that male spouses can complain just as much

I'm so old that the first computer game I ever played was the text game "Adventure" on a mainframe at college when I was a teen. (There were no such things as PCs then!)

And my husband is even older, and just as addicted to games (but not Civ, which is good--we don't have to fight over it!)

Are you referring to the Colossal Cave? "Xyzzy" and "plugh"?
I remember that - just wasn't any good with it.

Oh, knowing myself I don't doubt that at all!

But let this be a lesson for all of you as of yet unmarried gamers.... try to find someone who shares your interests.

Yep. That's the one. And in order beat that kind of text game, you had to type in the correct response perfectly, like "let the bird out of the cage," and it wouldn't recognize "release bird" or "open the cage" or even forgive spacing errors... Many hours of wasted time on that kind of game. Ah, for the good old days.

I am 29, started with Civ I back in 93' when I borrowed disks from a friend, got addicted to it, and used to daydream in class about how to wipe out those pesky backward Mongols when I get home. Then moved on all versions of Civ, the only one that I didn't play is the Civ game by Apolyton.
