Age of Discovery PBEM

I am willing to bet that this scenario generates an epic amount of posts or I mean word count will be over the top. Very little amount of GPS TO ... because so much will occur.

I think those voices in my head was wrong.
Captain I see a bird carring a small branch. Arrr!!! ye are right, we must be close.

Alright mates it won't be long, sharpen thy sword and ram yer wad
we might have to fight for a piece of land boys. I don't know but be ready!

Why can't I build a city on jungle? I would have thought we would be able to cut it down in this age.

GPS to Tom.

Yes, that's something special in this scenario: jungle must first be cleared (I think 24 worker turns, 16 for industrial), before it can be settled. Desert is "unpassable" terrain, so no settling, no improving under any circumstances here! Swamp is like jungle, I think. (But cheaper to clear.)
Just so you know what to expect, when you get here... Nothing but heat and mosquitos and no goods of real value, so you may as well stay at home... :)

Update: As I just found out in my single-player practise game: forest needs to be cleared as well, before you can settle on it!! (Hope this will save you the trouble of finding out yourself and from wasting another couple of turns...)

OK thanks, wasted 2 turns then.

Well there is a lot of yellow metal in the hills, not that it would interest you but we like it to balance our big wooden canoes. So we will swap all of these very shiny magical beads for any you may have hanging around. These beads are worth a lot so we expect a lot of yellow metal.

p.s. you can keep the mosquitoes.

The beach landing was all the English had expected, neighbors can be seen just over the Hills
Pikeman fell trees and the scout ponders his next direction.

The prophets were right! Many white men with beards arrived on our shores and brought us wisdom and previously unheard of knowledge. We are very eager to learn more of your lore and are willing to give you loads of that soft worthless yellow metal, if you teach us new things.

Lots of Scot warriors wielding bows, they have no desire to speak and seem aggressive in the way that they haven't yielded the right of way to my English units

The New England settler is greeted warmly by a local tribe called the Mayans. they showed particular interest in map trading but felt that some knowledge new to them would make future trading more fruitful. I countered his suggestion with the means to communicate with other local tribes.
First impressions of this Mayan Tribe seemed artificial but time will tell if England has room for this particular leader in England's grand plan

French units close in on our New England Settler, just curiosity I hope. My Explorer finds great lakes directly to the West, and the climate quite similar to her homeland and decide this is exactly the place to settle. A familiarity to the region like they had been here before, but alas it must be the Port

Word is sent to the Queen that other cities can be erected nearby but local Scot tribesman may need persuading to yield the area.

We also have run into many aggressive natives. Once they are dispatched though they provide a little gold for our troubles.

A lot of gold is changing hands these days. Even though this metal is not really good for anything (except for crafting nice goblets and neat adornments for our women), we realize that the white men must be really fond of it and are willing to teach us great new things in exchange for it. This suddenly makes it quite valuable!

Hmmm, it seems our European brethren are giving our secrets away a little too cheaply.

The aftermath of much Rum, women and all other things associated with a party of sailors set to sea and the point of no return.
Sir Francis Drake has left the building:eek:
