Is their any word to as wether the Great Leaders change over time in Civ 4 :confused:
I personally would find it weird to have Elvis when I have knights running around. OR see a Philosopher in a tunic when I drop the A-Bomb :)
 
I've always thought that the ONE leader head lasting the span of a few thousand years was odd... So I don't think the great leaders should be an exception.
 
They would be skeletons by the modern age, unless they built Longevity of course
 
aha! but the egyptians would have mummies! they could last forever....
oh, and the russians have lenin in the glass box...
 
i doubt age is a factor in civ 4. unlike rome - total war, which also focuses on roleplay, civ series doesn't seem to be doing that. they did say that there is some element of roleplay with the 40 odd unit promotions, but i doubt its gonna go very far.

I was hoping this would be about leaderheads, where I could issue a protest that we can't have an actual royal family tree and do intermarraige with other civs... but alas, it's about great leaders.

Personally, in my civ, togas will be all the rage even until 4000 AD.
 
Ageing Leaders? no thank you. I hated that in Rome TW , it is sad to see your superior commander that fought legendary battles , and have 10 stars in command and influence and is full of great traits, after all that you see him die in the game to get his foolish sissy son (with 0 command and 0 influence and 0 manage) as a useless new leader...that was in Rome TW.. but no thanls.
 
As I understand it the Great People will help us to start a golden age, boost culture, construct academies and so on. I believe that means that they will stay in the game only for a few turns, something like the Great Leaders in Civ 3. If that’s true I can’t see why they should age. :king:
 
OK we're NOT talking about ageing leaders. The poor guy's named the thread badly, if you read his first post you'll get what he's talking about.

I'm sure the great people will look different at different periods of the game. That said finding a great person for america in the ancient age or rome in the modern age would be quite tricky. I doubt they'd have overlooked this point though. I trust those guys.
 
As you can see with the new screenshots (here on gamespot), the look of the leaders will change according to the 'age' (techlevel).

So, your question is answered and this confusing thread a little more confusing... :D

This is an interesting idea. I think leaders should age, forcing you to have to pick a new leader every so often, either through elections, appointment, overthrow, etc.

I think the idea of building a leader with an RPG style game would be pretty cool.
 
I thought you meant if Great People only should live a given number of turns, which they BTW should (and probably will...)!

But then weird stuff shows up. Like if the GP lives 20 turns, that will mean some thousands year early in the game and late in the game only 20 years. To make up for this, GPs must have different turns to live in different stages of the game. But that's wrong, as you'll have the GP alive for a very short time early, even 1 turn might be a unrealistic lifespan... Obviously, there shouldn't be a different profit provided on when you get the GP.

I guess this one is condemned to be unrealistic in some way. :crazyeye:
 
realism would be no reason to determine the number of turns a Great Person would live, gameplay is. And that'd be too the reason to include this feature, making it impossible to keep a leader so that you can rush wonder xy... or every other similar exploit.
Therefore, the number of turns would have to be around 10 turns for all the time of the game, I think...
