Aid Requests & The AI Post-June Patch Strategy

What's the recommended strategy for winning aid requests against the AI?

I was pumping what I thought was large amounts of gold (+50 gold/turn, +20 gold/turn, etc, gifts of +500, +1000) only to ultimately lose against the the AI 6200 to 6000

Just seems like a tremendous waste of gold for 2 DP

I think this is a bug, it causes that the AI to waste all its gold, and causes the receiving end civ to to have thousands of gold per turn. Clearly how much AI spends and how much the civ earn is not balanced and need to be adjusted.

But ... but, it provides all that gold so that civ can spend it all for their DP (or other ‘frivolous’ purpose).

Caveat: I haven’t had substantial experience with this yet.

Until they fix it, I’d say the best strategy is to not participate in these emergencies.

If you're going for a Diplomatic victory, send a lot of gold and do send aid projects. If you're not going for a diplo victory, you can safely ignore those aid requests, I don't think the diplomatic favor is worth all the gold you need to spend.

Play as Mali.

I have the impression that the AI try to catch with whoever is winning, so the more you invest, the more the AI invest, the harder it gets to win. Try to stay on the lead or close to the lead but don't get too much of an advantage over the second place, to discourage the AI from investing more. Save gold and try to win in the last few turns.

I tried to go after an Aid Request while I wasn't going for Diplo Victory. Biggest mistake of my life, 100% not worth it. Aid request as it's now is definitely only for Diplo victories.

Aiming for DV makes the effort worth it now that it grants 2 points. The flavor for silver or bronze medal is way too expensive in many case (excepted if the competition leader has few points)
Sending Aid project should gives more points than sending money though (currently 200 points only, standard speed)
