1130AD (173):
Switch the scientist in Bombay to a spy. Makes 4 EPs and 4 beakers, which is excellent, and we need more EPs on Monty anyways.
Micro Agra a bit to work some of the mines rather than unimproved tiles. We obviously need more farms here, will work on that.
I note we have a Caravel due in 3 turns from Bombay, and another one two after from Pata. Once these guys set out, I will drop to "No State Religion". This is so we will not anger new AIs that we meet immediately, enabling us to sign open borders with them and increase our relations. Since we are spiritual, we can basically do this for free. In preparation for this however, I will stagnant our cities at 1 below the happy cap to account for the loss from ditching the state religion.
That means Bombay gets stagnanted again, for a scientist.
Everything else looks good for now though. Will watch the cities every turn for stagnant time.
Slider is set at zero, and Grover is right that it saves us 1 gold... Not sure if that is really that significant. 20% on the slider gives us Civil in 9, so I do that.
We are getting a probable Great Scientist in Delhi in 3 turns, which I will settle.
1140AD (174):
Our EPs pass up Monty this turn and we see that he is researching Alphabet in 6. lol. Well, that means we'll have to deal with his spies soon.
Plunking down another farm and a mine in Agra this turn.
We've got 3 workers done working at Lahore. Send 2 up to Calcutta to lay down some watermills, while the last one starts roading the cows, for when we get some culture down here.
We scout out the plains hill isle to the south, and find no seafood. Marginal, bleh.
1150AD (175):
Bombay gets a border pop and Monty adopts HR.
Missionary done in Vijay, so dialing up a spy. The Missionary heads for Lahore.
Courthouse in Agra is done. It has LOTS of options. The place has 4 hills and plenty of watermill space. However, the sugar makes it an excellent cottaging site. We'll lay off the cottages until it's properly online though. Dial up a forge in 11 turns.
Delhi is size 11 now, so stagnenting it. It has 6 excess food... so I work a cottage and hire a spy.
1160AD (176):
We get a Great Prophet >.< Ah, what the hell... He gets settled... and we can boost science by another 10%.
Caravel is done at Bombay. Dial up a settler for some backfilling.
1170AD (177):
Doh, I forgot how many turns the spy had been sitting around. Alright, max discount bonus...
Start a farm on a tile not in any BFC, for irrigation purposes.
1180AD (178):
We get a negative event with the Aztecs. Nice...
Lahore gets Hinduized.
Pata finished the Caravel, so it sets out, and we dial up... uh... Hmm... Let's go for a lighthouse, because we aren't growing.
Maxwell is back in Delhi, so sending him out to Teo again (the closer to our territory, the cheaper).
1190AD (179):
What a clown man... He didn't even move any units this turn. Alright, mobilizing troops. The spy at Vijay is done. I can dial up a Catapult or a Crossbow. We'll do a crossbow first for the defense.
Vara's lighthouse is also done. Dial up a library. Will need to stagnent this next turn.
I drop our religion, and ditch OR at the same time to save us some cash. We want to be building units right now anyways...
1200AD (180):
Monty is a funny guy. I put Axes on the fire land of forests last turn, so he puts his troops on flat land
So our shock axe kills the Jag flawlessly, and Timur is born in Delhi (GG obviously). We probably want a super medic (one of our Woodsy Axes). He heads for Vijay.
Spies are heading to Teo, where we can hopefully nuke defenses and sieze the city.
1210AD (181):
In the Inturn, the spear remaining under the Jag we killed sallies at our Woodsman 2 Axe in the forest. You can guess what happened.
Civil is in, so Monty will be in trouble soon. We dial Paper in 6 turns.
AND! A forest grows near Vijay. Not in the surrounding 8, but in the FC, so our production celebrates.
Vara is at max happy, so move off some food and work some hammers. Also hiring a spy.
I blow some money upgrading some Axes to Maces.
Calcutta grows into unhappy next turn. I am HOPING my math is good and that I can whip next turn.
It looks like Monty killed the Barb Galley, and is sending a beat up Galley into our waters. Trireme is STILL not around (slowly but surely).
1220AD (182):
Zu Chongshi (GS) is born far away.
Monty sends 3 units against our 2 Macemen in the forest... Again, you can guess what happened.
We are up on Monty in EPs again, so we can see he is researching Feud.
Crap, I just noticed that Monty landed a Jag and a spear beside Vara...
Ok, the Axe in garrison kills the Jag, and the workers flee. The spear is left and is dead next turn.
Hello.
Get Open Borders. Let's take a look at the techs...
Well, he won't trade us anything but Monarchy, so I take it. Come to think of it, his reasons for not trading are "We don't want to start trading away this tech just yet". That means that this AI has a monopoly on those techs out of all the civs he knows. Probably means he is isolated.
NE is done in Delhi. 73 freaking GPP a turn. GP in SIX turns... Wow. Dial up a colesseum.
Bombay Settler is done, dial a mace.
Pata finishes a lighthouse. Chain farming is happening to this town soon, so dial up a colesseum.
1230AD (183):
Cao Cao (General), Will Shakespeare (Artist), and Darwin (Scientist) are born far away.
The spear pillages our rice, and it dies to the axeman.
Found Madras, according to Liq's master city plan.
Granary in 12.
Teo eats a city revolt. Let's go.
Shock mace kills an Axe.
The Woody Mace has bad odds, so send in an Axeman first. He dies, but beats up the enemy Axe.
There is ANOTHER Axe. Ugh. Ok, send in a Combat 1 Axe with 35% odds, and HE WINS. w00t!
Axe vs Cat, and the Cat dies.
A Jag next, and he dies to our mace.
A cat dies to our axe next. This was a flip of a coin.
And another jag dies to our Axe.
There's a Jag and the wounded axe left. and we have two measly chariots. The combat 1 charges and dies to the Jag, but hurts it.
The Medic then kills the Axe. One unit left in this town.
Running to eat dinner, so shutting the game down...
------------
And we're back...
I see a white border to the east. It happens to be...
He founded Confucianism. We get open borders but Churchill is KILLING us in Tech. I'll take this, because we have our ships out already (and it's JUST compass, not optics).
Churchill has almost 400 points more than us. Ugh.
The crossbow is done in Vijay, so dial up a Cat.
Whipped courthouse is done in Calcutta. Temple because happy is needed here.
1240AD (184):
Maxwell gets caught in enemy territory. This is while he's sitting under our entire military stack. Ok, someone at Firaxis please explain how that happened...
We get Jeanne d'Arc in Bombay (ANOTHER Prophet). I don't settle just yet, as we may want to save for a future Golden Age.
We also have some pissed off people due to War Weariness. 68 WW with Monty.
Meet this guy's fishing boat in English waters...
Of course we go for Open Borders. Seems that Caesar is killing us in Tech as well...
First up is a Woody axe which I promote CR1 as well. It dies to the archer but does damage. Good enough.
Next up is the Shock axe, which I also give CR1. It finishes the archer.
Last is the Medic Chariot to kill the wounded Jag.
We capture and raze Teo. The chariot retreats back under the forest.
Monty still won't talk, but Vijay has breathing room now.
I see a blue border off in the mist beside one of Churchill's cities.
1250AD (185):
And we meet Gilgamesh.
He is not a big fan of Caesar or Churchill it seems, and is actually at war with Caesar. Well... he is worst enemies with 2 civs. 2 powerful civs. So not going to sign open borders. He does have Feud and Calendar to trade with us, but I'm not keen on getting massed negative modifiers with the others.
1260AD (186):
So Monty is willing to give us peace this turn.
Delhi finished its colosseum, and starts a barracks so it can help with unit generation.
Bombay's Maceman is done, so order a cat.
1270AD (187):
Tentatively dial up education for the liberalism beeline.
Cat done in Vijay, dial for a mace.
Agra forge done, going for a temple.
Passing the buck here, as Paper is in. We are also very close to circumnav.
IMO, keep paper away from the others and trade optics for their techs. Then after education, we'll just need phil (which Churchill won't trade us).
We are using 3.17 patch now.
