AKSG-01 First Try at Prince

But if you settle a prophet, you might get another prophet. I thought we wanted to avoid those.

As for SE vs SW, SE had less jungle around and more workers nearby.

Settled Great People don't generate GPPs. A settled prophet for us would be 2 hammers, 5 gold, and the extra 3 beakers from rep. Not a bad deal over the course of the game.

EDIT: Not a huge deal. Prophets aren't the greatest anyways, and we appear to have another scientist coming up in Delhi (settle). Golden Ages are never a bad thing, but we've burned our first GP initiated GA on one that wasn't particularly helpful given the state of our cities, and it will cost 2 different GPs saved up for the next one.

Good turns, one major :smoke: :)

The Golden Age was a bad move :D.

Two real reasons. First, as silver mentioned, settling the GP was much stronger move, especially under rep. Early golden ages are weak as we seriously only have 3 towns that are on their feet. The other Towns are still too new or in areas where where they are entombed in unusable tiles (e.g.patty needs civil and some worker attention) such that a Golden Age's effects are going to be muted.

The other bad move about not embedding the priest is that a Golden Age is a very limited creature. First is free, as you doubtless know by now, but the 2nd and 3rd require planning. Each progressive Goldenage needs another great person such that the next one will consume 2x great people. The other, more hexing issue, is that we are going to need varied great people for said Golden Age.

By the time one is up to their 3rd golden age, they are going to need 3 different types of great people; 2x scientists and an artist aren't gonna cut it.

So understand you wasted a goldenage for the team :D

We lose? naw. Live and learn eh?

Not like we didn;t take any benefit fom it all.

As for the tech path, Six of one, half a dozen of the other.:D

Civil allows us to Super Charge Delhi and start heroic irrigation chains that will entail screen shots I'd imagine hahaha. A strong tech for us even without considering the maces.

That we need it yes, that we wanted to get optics and compass out of the way... that's more varied and less self satisfying :D

A valid tech path and one we needed to get done sooner rather than later.:goodjob:

Btw Bombay's unhealthiness was from that effing barb galley, slotting a harbor was a heads up move.

As for worker army.. ugly or what. I say let silver plan it all

Dejunglization is the easy way out and by no means a bad move... liq just calls it Worker abuse btw hahahahaha. Later on when in doubt, spaming roads is good, and then there's always 'Railing Everything' haha.

I personally like Lashore as next town, good choice as it got hammers right off the bat with clams and cows incoming. Pink dot (it's a convoluted joke) is a strong location that doesn;t require a ton of worker time and once those cows get up, it'll be one of our better towns.

I see you also started a missionary for it as well which was heads up.

Good stuff mate.

Cheers!
-Liq

1130AD (173):

Switch the scientist in Bombay to a spy. Makes 4 EPs and 4 beakers, which is excellent, and we need more EPs on Monty anyways.

Micro Agra a bit to work some of the mines rather than unimproved tiles. We obviously need more farms here, will work on that.

I note we have a Caravel due in 3 turns from Bombay, and another one two after from Pata. Once these guys set out, I will drop to "No State Religion". This is so we will not anger new AIs that we meet immediately, enabling us to sign open borders with them and increase our relations. Since we are spiritual, we can basically do this for free. In preparation for this however, I will stagnant our cities at 1 below the happy cap to account for the loss from ditching the state religion.

That means Bombay gets stagnanted again, for a scientist.

Everything else looks good for now though. Will watch the cities every turn for stagnant time.

Slider is set at zero, and Grover is right that it saves us 1 gold... Not sure if that is really that significant. 20% on the slider gives us Civil in 9, so I do that.

We are getting a probable Great Scientist in Delhi in 3 turns, which I will settle.

1140AD (174):

Our EPs pass up Monty this turn and we see that he is researching Alphabet in 6. lol. Well, that means we'll have to deal with his spies soon.

Plunking down another farm and a mine in Agra this turn.

We've got 3 workers done working at Lahore. Send 2 up to Calcutta to lay down some watermills, while the last one starts roading the cows, for when we get some culture down here.

We scout out the plains hill isle to the south, and find no seafood. Marginal, bleh.

1150AD (175):

Bombay gets a border pop and Monty adopts HR.

Missionary done in Vijay, so dialing up a spy. The Missionary heads for Lahore.

Courthouse in Agra is done. It has LOTS of options. The place has 4 hills and plenty of watermill space. However, the sugar makes it an excellent cottaging site. We'll lay off the cottages until it's properly online though. Dial up a forge in 11 turns.

Delhi is size 11 now, so stagnenting it. It has 6 excess food... so I work a cottage and hire a spy.

1160AD (176):

We get a Great Prophet >.< Ah, what the hell... He gets settled... and we can boost science by another 10%.

Caravel is done at Bombay. Dial up a settler for some backfilling.

1170AD (177):

Doh, I forgot how many turns the spy had been sitting around. Alright, max discount bonus...

set3stealfrommonty.jpg

set3construction.jpg

Start a farm on a tile not in any BFC, for irrigation purposes.

1180AD (178):

We get a negative event with the Aztecs. Nice...

Lahore gets Hinduized.

Pata finished the Caravel, so it sets out, and we dial up... uh... Hmm... Let's go for a lighthouse, because we aren't growing.

Maxwell is back in Delhi, so sending him out to Teo again (the closer to our territory, the cheaper).

1190AD (179):

set3montywar.jpg

What a clown man... He didn't even move any units this turn. Alright, mobilizing troops. The spy at Vijay is done. I can dial up a Catapult or a Crossbow. We'll do a crossbow first for the defense.

Vara's lighthouse is also done. Dial up a library. Will need to stagnent this next turn.

I drop our religion, and ditch OR at the same time to save us some cash. We want to be building units right now anyways...

1200AD (180):

Monty is a funny guy. I put Axes on the fire land of forests last turn, so he puts his troops on flat land

set3montyonflats.jpg

So our shock axe kills the Jag flawlessly, and Timur is born in Delhi (GG obviously). We probably want a super medic (one of our Woodsy Axes). He heads for Vijay.

Spies are heading to Teo, where we can hopefully nuke defenses and sieze the city.

1210AD (181):

In the Inturn, the spear remaining under the Jag we killed sallies at our Woodsman 2 Axe in the forest. You can guess what happened.

set3civil.jpg

Civil is in, so Monty will be in trouble soon. We dial Paper in 6 turns.

AND! A forest grows near Vijay. Not in the surrounding 8, but in the FC, so our production celebrates.

Vara is at max happy, so move off some food and work some hammers. Also hiring a spy.

I blow some money upgrading some Axes to Maces.

Calcutta grows into unhappy next turn. I am HOPING my math is good and that I can whip next turn.

It looks like Monty killed the Barb Galley, and is sending a beat up Galley into our waters. Trireme is STILL not around (slowly but surely).

1220AD (182):

Zu Chongshi (GS) is born far away.

Monty sends 3 units against our 2 Macemen in the forest... Again, you can guess what happened.

We are up on Monty in EPs again, so we can see he is researching Feud.

Crap, I just noticed that Monty landed a Jag and a spear beside Vara...

Ok, the Axe in garrison kills the Jag, and the workers flee. The spear is left and is dead next turn.

Hello.

set3sulei.jpg

Get Open Borders. Let's take a look at the techs...

set3suleitrade-1.jpg

Well, he won't trade us anything but Monarchy, so I take it. Come to think of it, his reasons for not trading are "We don't want to start trading away this tech just yet". That means that this AI has a monopoly on those techs out of all the civs he knows. Probably means he is isolated.

NE is done in Delhi. 73 freaking GPP a turn. GP in SIX turns... Wow. Dial up a colesseum.

Bombay Settler is done, dial a mace.

Pata finishes a lighthouse. Chain farming is happening to this town soon, so dial up a colesseum.

1230AD (183):

Cao Cao (General), Will Shakespeare (Artist), and Darwin (Scientist) are born far away.

The spear pillages our rice, and it dies to the axeman.

Found Madras, according to Liq's master city plan.

set3madras.jpg

Granary in 12.

Teo eats a city revolt. Let's go.

Shock mace kills an Axe.
The Woody Mace has bad odds, so send in an Axeman first. He dies, but beats up the enemy Axe.
There is ANOTHER Axe. Ugh. Ok, send in a Combat 1 Axe with 35% odds, and HE WINS. w00t!
Axe vs Cat, and the Cat dies.
A Jag next, and he dies to our mace.
A cat dies to our axe next. This was a flip of a coin.
And another jag dies to our Axe.
There's a Jag and the wounded axe left. and we have two measly chariots. The combat 1 charges and dies to the Jag, but hurts it.
The Medic then kills the Axe. One unit left in this town.

Running to eat dinner, so shutting the game down...

------------

And we're back...

I see a white border to the east. It happens to be...

set3churchill.jpg

He founded Confucianism. We get open borders but Churchill is KILLING us in Tech. I'll take this, because we have our ships out already (and it's JUST compass, not optics).

set3chuchilltrade.jpg

Churchill has almost 400 points more than us. Ugh.

The crossbow is done in Vijay, so dial up a Cat.

Whipped courthouse is done in Calcutta. Temple because happy is needed here.

1240AD (184):

Maxwell gets caught in enemy territory. This is while he's sitting under our entire military stack. Ok, someone at Firaxis please explain how that happened...

We get Jeanne d'Arc in Bombay (ANOTHER Prophet). I don't settle just yet, as we may want to save for a future Golden Age.

We also have some pissed off people due to War Weariness. 68 WW with Monty.

Meet this guy's fishing boat in English waters...

set3caesar.jpg

Of course we go for Open Borders. Seems that Caesar is killing us in Tech as well...

First up is a Woody axe which I promote CR1 as well. It dies to the archer but does damage. Good enough.
Next up is the Shock axe, which I also give CR1. It finishes the archer.
Last is the Medic Chariot to kill the wounded Jag.

We capture and raze Teo. The chariot retreats back under the forest.

set3teo.jpg

Monty still won't talk, but Vijay has breathing room now.

I see a blue border off in the mist beside one of Churchill's cities.

1250AD (185):

And we meet Gilgamesh.

set3gilgamesh.jpg

He is not a big fan of Caesar or Churchill it seems, and is actually at war with Caesar. Well... he is worst enemies with 2 civs. 2 powerful civs. So not going to sign open borders. He does have Feud and Calendar to trade with us, but I'm not keen on getting massed negative modifiers with the others.

1260AD (186):

So Monty is willing to give us peace this turn.

set3montypeace.jpg

Delhi finished its colosseum, and starts a barracks so it can help with unit generation.

Bombay's Maceman is done, so order a cat.

1270AD (187):

set3paper.jpg

Tentatively dial up education for the liberalism beeline.

Cat done in Vijay, dial for a mace.

Agra forge done, going for a temple.

Passing the buck here, as Paper is in. We are also very close to circumnav.

set3almostcircumnav.jpg

IMO, keep paper away from the others and trade optics for their techs. Then after education, we'll just need phil (which Churchill won't trade us).

We are using 3.17 patch now.

So I left a General and a Prophet sitting around. I personally think we should attach the general to the Woodsman 3 Maceman to make the super medic. As for the Prophet, well, he sucks. I guess we could save him for a Golden Age?

EDIT: New save, did a bit more MMing, and drew in an irrigation trench.

Ok if GG attaches to that woods 3 mace it will end up with 31/37 exp and gain two promotions... attack 1 medic 1.

That means it heals units in same space 25%, good deal. Woods 3 is impressive.

As it gains more promotions just feed it more medic promotions.

The AI's are gonna come begging for paper... don;t give in hehe.

Cheers!

Ok got it. i expect to report.

Were teching to librarlism what do we wanna take from it natio or maybe get astronomy? seems our spec economy is getting better and better ^^

Nationalism. Hands down.

Btw filling the last 4 dots needs to start happening at a measured pace.

Not a race but still need to get this place filled before other civs get astronomy.

First before settling, have a garrison and missionary at the site before popping the town though since the remaining 4 towns are all coastal, trade routes are free.

North of delhi iron is first as it's close and easy then the old green dot south west of patty, the last of the old school jungle. Get a galley going for that island town from patty well before settling as it needs two trips to get the garrison missionary and settler there. last town is in the extreme sw for filling goodness..

Looks like religion still gives culture when not state so...
First will be a work boat to get the food rolling for all but Green dot. Green dot should start on a courthouse after monument and have a few workers close by dejungling and hooking the cows up.

Basically with the trade route + shrine cash each of these towns are going to be a minor drain at worst, with that island town being a nice intercontinental trade route whore hehe.

Again this is not a race yet so don;t divert the entire north to set this up, focus on setting up monty.

btw vara needs to hook it's fish back up whereupon it will Make a nice settler pump.

Cheers!
-Liq

Sorry again about the Golden Age. I agree it was a bad move. At the time, I thought a settled Great Prophet would beget more Great Prophets. I guess propheteering doesn't run in families.

I'd like to request some guidance on how to improve our grassland and grassland/river tiles before my next turn so that I don't screw that up for us.

no sweat on the golden age grover. Anyway yeah silver needs to write up his master plan on worker improvements.

For now btw dejungle is nice hehe and the map is sloppily marked as to how to chain farms over to VJ.. those two goals alone will eat a ton of turns. The key is to try and waste as few grassland/forests to chain the farms. Ideal is every workable plain is farmed and every grass/ forest is not.

Vara in the middle shaping up to be a decent hammer shed so lets declare that a cottage free zone hehe.

Need to drag farms over to patty as well but well that will prolly be done after green dot is up and running.

Cheers!
-Liq

Guys can i get a skip? im still running 3.13 and i cant seem to update to 3.17 so i need to reinstall civ. I cant open the save with 3.13 :(

preturn: ok boring turns for now , worker abuse incoming and will get the turn setup for the invasion to monty land for grover in the meantime.

Lashore is going to pop it's phat cross next turn so cowabunga incoming.

South is hammering on happy buildings while north is on the war effort. ok.
gonna try and blitz that irrigation ditch as well.

Look at poor vara and it's total lack of hammers so 2 pop whip it's library. Get some nice overflow for it's workboat as well. Honestly setting that priest there isn;t the worst idea.

heh another GP in 2 turns could be anything other than a merchant hehe.

[1]1280 AD

Delhi's barracks comes in so... hmmm.... sneak in a 3 turn monestary for the science boost hehe shh., don;t tell silver.

nice 3 turns on workboat in vara from that whip... it's about to be pumping out settlers and maybe a few workers.

As mentioned, Lashore popped borders so work starts on the preroaded cows. still cannot whip the courthouse.

And the caverals can see eachother...
akk001roundtheworld.jpg

gg on movement bonus incoming. Time to find that 7th civ.

[2]1290 AD AD
Patty nails it's Colosseum for some reason... 4 pop cap hehe. I go for a 4 turn barracks. It will be pumping out garrisons soon.

uh ok well this could be bad...
akk001vassel.jpg

A few wonders fine but uh agustus just got himself a vassal.

well we pop the great scientist Xi Ing Shi and he bulbs education =) from 14 turns to 4. No brainer use of a GP There people hehe. 13 turns on the next gp hahaha.

[3]1300 AD

Bombay goes cat -> cat.

Agra nails the temple so goes... hmm monestary in as we are going to need missonarys.

Calcutta goes for a slow light house.
so looking over trades we would like feudalism and well calendar.... engineering is too far unless I push paper which will happen soo enough as education is almost in.

oh nice lashore can finally whip it's courthouse hehe slotted in a workboat for it's clams.
I'll wait.

No worker abuse yet.. soon soon.

[4]1310 AD
Washington says hi I'm guessing by our caverals since his techs are the same as everyone elses.. Good Old fashion AI Love Fest. Pray for war =p

Monestary finishes in delhi, go mace

VJ finishes mace goes mace hehe.

Vara finishes work boat go hmm settler. Was 11 turns then 8 after I popped the fishie.

pop science to 70% for education in one turn.

Finally some good old fashion worker abuse.. chain ganging the farms!

start moving up to the borders and look who shows up to the party..
akk001timahhh.jpg

[5]1320 AD
No real point spamming screens but we enter the renaissance with education, meaning techs get cheaper by the dozen!

We have a nice lead on the liberalism race so I'm going to beaker out a fun calendar in 3... that's a nominal 2x free happys for us.

hehehe Suleiman adopts vassalage for... uh shadowboxing?

[6]1330 AD
Builds finish etc Agra finished it's monestary so go for 3x missionary, Delhi cancels mace and goes for university 6. Yeah, forgot about uni's hehe.

Start roading to the calendar resources, forgot about the incense hehe.

[7]1340 AD
Monty comes demanding we convert to hinduism .. rofl. oh great, monty has feudalism now hehe. good thing his production is nil.

[8]1350 AD
More trades for paper hehe... Calender in, go phil in 6. mass workers jump the incence hehe.

[9]1360 AD
Missing screen shot but Churchhill declares war on Rome.
WWI started I suppose.. one of them is gonna ask us to help soon so I'm going to go with Churchhill since he and Washington are confuseued.

even more trades for paper.

start pumping out a few x bows to replace say... Delhi's warrior?

need a road to the front hehe opps. linking monty's old roads with ours.

Lashore is good to go now as clams are cookin (one turn setup thanks to
+1 move hehe) and cows are up.. slot a granary and set growth to max.

setting up north iron site and there's a barb galley off the coast.. yay. Change bombay to a 4 turn caveral. oh lots more barbs on the coast thanks to patch... ok need patrollers.

Calender resources coming online so move delhi back to grow form.

[10]1370 AD
Calm before the storm I guess.. can attack monty but Moving the stack onto the border. Waiting on that cry for help from someone hehe.

[11]1380 AD
There we go..
akk001Worldwar.jpg

well there's no way rome can attack us other than harass our nets so I take the deal to get some faction. =) So like eff the romans and shizzle. Time to get a navy going to patrol though.

Ok there we have it hehe 3 wars all set to go. Attacking monty imo blitz his capital first then clean up the house.. need to resettle on marble so raze the crap in front.. the one in back... raze it I guess and watch an AI settle there... ok keep it ... taking one for the team =/ start it on an effing courthouse like now haha. hope it keeps its' light house.

research is auto pilot to liberalism in 15ish Taking nationalism.

4 turns on the next GP in delhi.. if it bulbs liberalism bulb liberalism hehe.

I took the caverals off auto explore and one is dead in the middle of roman lands... so pillage away!

Bombay's caveral is for shore duty, and have bombay make north irons dot's (the next town) workboat.

Patty is up for a caveral as well to guard those southern fishies.

BTW look closely how that link of farms stretches from delhi to VJ... notice what gets farmed and what doesn;t. Came out perfect.

Can hit the last glob of jungles south of patty next btw, though need to shuttle some military down there. oh and there's a few sugars to plantation yet, we already have one online for the happy.

Have fun railroading Monty!

Cheers!

weeeell long time no... civ

sorry about the delay, i got back on friday but real life kindof prevented me accessing my computer, but w/e

catching up on all that has happened... seems it has been progressing very nicely and im still reading and noting down all you guys do that show some professional touch :D

im downloading and installing the patch ASAP but wont be able to play until I confirm its working :( untill then congrats on all the wonders made, razing of teotihuacan and meeting the rest of the known world!!

er ok liq is on drugs edit all that..

can trade away paper now btw as we want feudalism for guilds and banking. See if you can get music and drama as well from trading paper to washington and churchill.

education is not for sale yet ..

Go for it grover, akk can be up after you.

if we get a scientist see if it bulbs liberalism and use it if so.

Cheers!
-Liq

I guess waiting for Akk must be the right thing to do.

In case I do wind up taking a turn, though, I have some questions...

Are we just going to sit on that Great Prophet that's in Bombay? Or settle him? You mentioned Vara, possibly?

Our next settler (due in 1 turn) goes north of Delhi near the iron? We push out more settlers from Vara after he's done?

if you can play now grover, play now.. akks natural turn comes after you.

As for the priest might as well just settle it in vara. That town can use the hammers for sure and we are popping gp's like silly.

anyway to stress what techs we want.. music drama and feudalism are all nice. We'll be revolting to free religion once liberalism comes in btw.

oh and yes, vara is chain settlers. The town builds them at just the correct speed so chain em. Need 5 settlers total including the one partially built.

North iron first.

Cheers!
-Liq

hey grover im still reading through and getting familiar with the game... go for it as i still need to download the l8est patch as well!
