Alazkan: The Terminator

His balance is fine because he belongs to what is essentially a 1-trait civ. (No, Arcane never counts) With a handicap like that you need something like a really strong hero.

Arcane is pretty mediocre (Though it does help them get nature two a smidge faster) but the other trait is the single best FFH trait there is.

And seriously, even without a trait, the elves ability to build in forests is *extremely* good. Not only can they forgo bronze working for the entire game, but they also get +1 Food, and +1 Production and +1 Happiness from every tile in a city radius, over the course of a game.

The Good elves at least aren't a military powerhouse, but when you can just pick up Poison's, and be basically set for the game, it's a little crazy.

Alazkhan is even better if there are a few forests dotted around your enemies areas, park yourself in one, foray out, run back if needs be. Alazkhan is a one man wrecking ball imo.

Agreed, in early-mid game Alazkan is extremily powerful, but in late game he becomes out classed by units like Champions with Mithril weapons. The Mirror remains powerful, because your most powerful units can us it, even once Alazkan in obselite.

If you guys are playing games that involve mithril, and Alazkan, you might not be playing aggressively enough...

Why, because I've Enemies on other Continents, and and I can't be bothered to get ships because I've more important things to reaserch?

If you are going for a conquest victory, and the only thing between you and it is a lack of ships, what else is more important?

Sorry, wrong thread

alaz is overpowered. i only play as the svalt in competetive games, cause they have the best "flow". raider, sinister, and FoL make a nasty early game. when I play the AI, i dont even like to build him because it makes the game clockwork afterwards. it's only a matter of time and he can beat every civ by himself...no exaggeration. people might say... well he sucks on defence, just get him move 4 and his raider trait will carry him out. too easy. or just park him in some woods. i love him, but i think he ruins games for me. i always quit after i kill the first 2 civs with him.

Well, you could still build him, delete him, and build the shrine. That would get you the mirror, which you could still use, and a free promotion for later units (via the shrine).

what is this you speak of, how do you transfer the mirror and with what shrine. i guess ive been playing an older patch.

DarkxL0rd, When your hero dies, you get to build the "Shrine of the Champion", which gives a free promo to units built in that city. When alakazan dies, he drops his item, the Black Mirror.

Just the same like Sphener, Mordeo, Brigid, Eurabatres, Abashi, Hyborem or even normal centaur knight (chariot) with lots of xp and promotions. So it`s only depends on your game style.

Yea, except none of those other units can saunter into a "friendly" civ at any time and start gaining exp by picking off easy targets with marksman. You can have a 100xp Alazkan in 25 turns where any of those other units are still at 25xp.

All of those are end of game hero's, or a non hero chariot type unit that requires a long time to get XP. Alazkan is much much earlier, and has double the damage output. Sure, Sphener can be strong enough to win a war by himself if you get him early enough, but He can't kill or mortally wound 8 units a turn.

I played the Calabim yesterday, and researched to Fanaticism, creating Losha Valas. Since she is immortal (for the most part) I sent her off with 2 spiders to attach the civ in the lead. It didn't matter that she was immortal. She won every combat. She went combat -> march -> drill. I happened to have Orthus's axe (many defending warriors died for it), so haste + 2 attacks, which went to 3 when she got mobility. When she got blitz, she handed the axe off to another unit, and I quit the game, since I had 4 times the score of any other civ.

This was using FF with the broader alignment setting. Which allows Calabim to follow Order, and still be in the CoE (since they are neutral with Order).

It is nice having a hero that you don't have to worry about dying. She never did, but if she had, with haste, she can get back to the front lines fairly quickly. Attack I weak unit to gain immortality, then she is back in action.

I love that all the Forums "Olde Guarde" from back when is getting "a namesaked unit".

I still await the "Qes" unit that just runs around and annoys everyone until they quit.

Default Forfeit FTW!
