I had a nice start with 2 lux, 2 food and horses near.

Developed the City, took liberty and Collective Rule, and founded Sparta, within hills and 1 lux, 1 food.

By turn 68 I Declared War on Rome. It was easy to took its capital (only guarded by 1 Archer), and my forces (3 Companion Cavalry, 2 Warriors, loss a Companion Cavalry while conquering Rome) eventually marched towards Cumae and Antium, captured an worker. Caeser begged for peace, and I received Cumae + Wine.

As discovered Iron Working I found out that every single city I owed had an source of Iron within its borders. Upraded my Warriors into Swords, and as soon as I had positive happiness - annexed Rome- (Building circus or something) I was conquering the last city of the Roman Empire, or maybe destroy the French.

:goodjob: Not bad for Early Classical Era

Yeah, Companion Cavalry are wonderful. Just need to keep a medic around to get them back into the fight.

I would also check out the Hoplite. Strength 13 and the same cost as a Spearman, with no resources. Compare that to a Swordsman -- Strength 14 and requires Iron, plus factor in the Hoplite's anti-mounted promotion, and it is a beast of the Ancient Era. I would argue that the Hoplite is in some ways even better than Move 5 / Strength 14 Companion Cavalry, especially for city assaults.

Anyway, good job. It's always fun making an early rush work.
