Alexander The Great's Conquests Scenario help

hi, i've been playing the alexander's conquests on Noble difficulty and i could never beat campagne. i usually have 5 of my cities pumping troops since the other 3 cities dont have good productions. so i build phalanx with Combat II promotion so that i can get the "vs. mounted unit" promotion(i forgot whats its called), hypo(or watever its called) plus Shock promotion for anti melee units, and swordsmen with 2nd city raider promotion for city attack. i usually keep pumping out units and stack them at the border between my territory and that of Darius. then i start attacking usually at around 330 BC or so. i take out the first 2 cities and have to fortify for a while until the revolts are quelled, but they Darius keeps bringing his troops to attack the cities. of course that takes a lot of time off. eventually i get to the part where there's only 100 turns left and i manage to take over round 2-3 cities. so u get the idea since there are so many cities to take. so do u guys have any tips or strategies for me? thx in advance!

Edit: oh by the way, u cant specialize any city here, so i just let everything go the way it is. well, besides, i suck at this game anyway . i could never beat anything, even in the Play Now game. i am just that bad. in general, i never win a match in civilization games. im not a warmonger, but watever victory condition i aim, i usually fail to achieve it. its just sad....any help on this too would be great.

This scenario is warmongering only.

Research towards whatever barracks you feel you must have, city raider promotion(s), and the long term goal of the tech that lets you move further on roads - a critical goal.

Build catapults, lots of them, they are your most important unit.

Attack eastward as much as possible, cleaning up other directions with spare troops.

Pillage the road to Egypt to reduce their military production.

Never stop moving.
I'm playing on Noble, and the bulldozer approach seems to be working quite well.
Darius appears to often attack with almost no infantry, which lets phalanxes rip his stacks apart, and Egypt's army is almost entirely elephants and catapults (again, phalanxes FTW!).
If you never give the Persians time to rest, you can just keep ploughing through them.

thx guys and thx Breunor for the strategy, but at around wat year do u recommend i should start taking the first city? and my major problem is when i capture a city with my main stack, i have to fortify the troops in the city for a while to quell the rebellions and to defend from Persian invasion. or if i leave the city with only a few troops fortifying it, not only do i make my stack smaller, but the city itself is very vulnerable to be retaken by the Persians since they are on constant assault. so wat do u think i should do?

You should try to capture Sardis as soon as possible. The beginning is tough if you wait to concentrate your army, then the Persians use Sardis as a rallying control zone.

Its improtant to take Sardis and kill the nearby troops. Once the initial army is defeated, there isn't a lot to worry abotu for a while.

Rebels aren't a big deal early, your reinforcements can handle them.

So, take Sardis fast, take your lumps, build a medic, and get going.

i finally beat the game!!! sadly, i defeated with only a few turns left before the game ended. i very often had to fortify my stack to heal and that is time-consuming. like i said early in the other post, when i captured a city, i had to fortify my troops there to heal and to suppress the rebellion. of course i could just leave a few units to defend it, but it only made my stack even smaller. in addition to that, the Persian troops were roaming the land, and i got distracted into chasing them down. often, they managed to recaptured the city because i had not enough troops to defend it and is very frustrating. my main stack kept heading east, but by doing those things over and over, ive wasted a lot of time. maybe i just need a better startegy on how to become a good warmonger

Yes, the Pesians are tough in the first few turns (and when you get near Babylon). After that, roll!

Are you making a unit or two with the healing promotions? Medics can really solve your first problem. (Also, the unit that you make from your warlords could really use the heal-on-the-move promotion.... I got good results.)

Also, you need to kick your raze-meter up about 4 notches, maybe 5. Raze more cities and your second problem disappears.

I am playing the scenario on Noble right now and my strategy was to capture 4 cities in Anatolia, and raze everything else.. Oh ya, I kept Babylon too.. but nothing else.

I'm doing well, I have 50 turns left, and just the Indians left to deal with.. There are 3 big stacks taking them out, and 1 huuuge one on the way, just in case

i did have medics in the stack, but i still had to fortify for a while to get the injured to full health. as for razing cities, i dont think u can raze cities in this scenario becuz i didnt encounter that option during my gameplay.

Yes you can; it's the best strategy imo. You will want to keep those cities in Anatolia though.

i dont know cuz when i played that scenario, i couldnt raze captured cities

As with any miltary endeavor in Civ, combined arms is the way to go. Have one city building each type of unit. Hypos are the most versitile, but phalanxes, cats, and cavalry are very necessary. When attacking, check to see which unit will give you the best odds.

I suggest keeping cities, get the basic barracks types in them and let them build units. Even if you have a city pumping one unit every 15 turns, that's one more unit than you would have had without that city.

I never raised cities and didn't have too much of a problem. My article pretty much goes through how I did it. I won three times on Emperor before writing the article.

You should get the medical promotion first. Its Ok to stop to heal at Sardis; you don't have to go THAT fast. Once the initial Persian forces are defeated, you can really roll until you get to the Damascus region and have to decide what to do with Egypt.

If I can add anything to this, it'd just be that your first couple specialists should be used for Golden Ages. This allows you to get up the tech tree faster and make more money, because as you progress your biggest problem isn't the enemies army, it's the ridiculous maintenance costs you'll have. I was able to get 4 golden ages by carefully monitoring what great people I was popping, and I also got lucky and captured some great people from Egypt and India.

Also, build archers and stay in hereditary rule to combat war weariness.

Has anyone gotten Alexander above "Victorious" without getting future techs? I beat this scenario the first and only time I played it, (on monarch) and didn't get anywhere CLOSE to finishing the tech tree. Towards the end I had to just build wealth in all of my cities to maintain my army.

I just finished my attempt to become "Alexander the Great."
Completing the tech tree does nothing except give you several useful abilities. The Future Tech requirements for the upgraded titles is a bit misleading.

It took a total of 197 experience points earned by the unit equiped with the Alexander general which you start the scenario with to achieve the final title.
