Alhambra + Brandenburg Gate + Heroic Epic - Win?

assuming you have other military structures like the armory and the barrack,
it will give all of your land based military units built in that city a +15% strength/drill III/march promotion to begin with.

i usually cram all the production buildings + wonders, like factories and iron works, into that city as well and you, all of a sudden, become a military POWERHOUSE, able to pump out uber units every few turns.

computer AIs, which usually choose to instantly heal units, rather than giving them valuable promotions, do not stand a chance against these uber units.

couple that with the fact that computer AIs usually don't seem to prioritize these wonders, like they do with Great Library, you have a really good chance of grabbing them both if you go for them.

anyone else do the same?
 
In my games Alhambra seems to be one of the most popular AI choices, its almost always gone before I even have the tech for it. Brandenburg does seem to hang around longer though.
 
In the games I play, Alhambra, the Castle wonder (Himeji? I forget the name) and the Kremlin all get rushed by the computer most of the time. I hardly ever get to them first, and I push wonders pretty hard in my game style.
 
Its nice to dream about, but in higher difficulties its near impossible. As has been said, Alhambra is a very high priority wonder for the AI
 
Alhambra is usually out of reach for me, too. Taking that out, the other elements are still a powerful combination of Morale + 3 promotions.

In fact, I started aiming to get this combination in a few recent tall games in a row (Heroic Epic is seriously unreasonable on wide).

What I found was that even on a tall empire it takes so many hammers that I probably would have been better just pumping more units. I still often go for Brandenburg + Armory for the ability to rush buy Air-Repair airplanes, but I leave Heroic out of it.

Oh yes: three promotions on Great War Bombers turns them into superunits. Give them Air Repair and they can attack safely every turn, so soon you have enough XP to give them +1 attack, and then just sit back and watch the enemies' cities burn. :P

I agree with this, it seems like it would be hard to get this combination.

Man I love bombers in G&K, I only play single player so dont know how powerful they are in multi but with the air repair upgrade they are unstoppable.
 
i think there's a thread like this every week...

the general consensus is, if you're playing at such a difficulty level this combination is somehow "easy to achieve" or sometimes even achieve-able, you would have won anyway and you're taking extra steps. raise the difficulty level and challenge yourself.
 
Yeah, if you can do it on Emperor and above, you deserve to win. This could be a viable strategy for the Incas, Korea, Egypt... Very Tall Empires that focuses hard on production and teching, I think it's working as designed.


Also, Faith Healers + Ethiopian UA + Himeji Castle + Just War + Fountain of Youth =

Mehari Sefari with 3 promotions + Rough Terrain Bonus + Double Healing + 20+15% Strength Bonus + Heals faster next to own cities, 20% Strength against other cities of same religion + Strength Bonus around the capital
