I'm considering using one, as I don't need all the fancy features on some IMs. (AIM and MSN are the two worst. Yahoo! I'll probably keep though.)

How good are the "all-in-one" IMs? I'm trying out Pidgin, but is there anything else?

Thanks.

For Windows, I used to use Trillian. I found it to be the best, all-round IM manager. Although, these days, Pidgen is right up there. ;)

In Linux, I find Pidgen to be one of the best, but I like Kopete, as well.

In any case, I will never use a 'single-use' IM again. The all-in-ones are much better for most purposes.

Thanks. I'll check out Trillian, because Pidgin is shooting out a bunch of weird errors whenever I try to IM someone.

I like Pidgin. I used to use Trillian as well and I can say that I definitely like Pidgin more.

Another vote for Miranda. Light, reliable, it does just what an IM client is supposed to do! But Pidgin wll be good for people who don't use (or want to continue using) Windows.

Trillian is a good IM client, but it is built more around business users rather than regular home users. When I used it had a free version and a "pro" paid for version. Using Pidgin currently.
