Alternate History of the World

3800 B.C. -- Aztecs. South of Techochitlan scouts were given additional local geographic info by the indigenous population, revealing little of value other than that the polar ice cap begins not far further south. There doesn't appear to be much of value in that direction other than frostbite.

The first of what will be many 10-turn updates on the scores is now here. Two parts, power ranking(just the game score), and a technology score in a 0-100 scale, 0 being having no techs at all, 100 everything in the game excluding future techs. More advanced techs are worth more. I'll probably add in population, military strength, etc. with the next one I just threw this together kind of in a hurry.

POWER RANKING

1. France(43)
2. Everyone else(36)

TECHNOLOGY

1. France(0.37)
2. Everyone else(0.25)

I keep tryin 18 civs on terra on noble marathon. I'm not real good at diplomacy so get dogpiled and after my army is weakened, a bunch of other civs declares war. Hard to make work in marathon because you have to be prepared with a large army to fight constantly building since they take so long to build. If you are caught not completely prepared, you lose. Not to mention the fact that I'd get stuck in the corner or in between other civs (last game I barely was able to fit two cities in my starting position) so lack of resources like copper, iron, horses :(. Might be different in continents though since you have less AIs to worry abut at any given point.

3740 B.C. -- Persian scouts, after a successful exploration a considerable distance west of Persepolis, were attacked and killed by a group of wild Bears. They saw the fearsome beasts approaching and attempted to prepare a defensive position, but it wasn't enough to fend off the attack.

The western half of Persia's explorations, including the area of the battle ...

Persepolis lies a fair distance to the east along this relatively narrow peninsula.

3700 B.C. – First contact between Russia and Japan has occurred, and it didn’t go off well. Somewhat hemmed in by the waters to the south, the Japanese have decided that the path to their future expansion lies more or less in the general direction of Moscow, and their councils have declared war after an ultimatum to the Russians was rejected in ringing terms. A more thoughtful people might have tried co-existence and moving off to the northeast, but such peaceful niceties don’t trouble the Japanese thought patterns. The entire army, in this case two companies of Warriors, began the journey northwest to ascertain the location of the offending Russian settlement.

For the Russians part, they were taken by surprise by the attack with Moscow completely undefended, not being a naturally violent or aggressive people but more concerned with quality of life. Both scout contingents were ordered to return to the defense of the city post-haste, but they are some distance away. Conscriptions were also ordered, but the brilliant, peaceful, and naïve people of Moscow are in grave danger if defenses cannot be constructed before the Japanese army arrives.

Meanwhile the English learned the technologies of Agriculture and The Wheel from a villages near London, one southeast and one northeast. For the moment this makes them the most advanced civilization in the world.

3660 B.C. – First contact between more civilizations, this time involving scouts from the nations of Mongolia and Spain. The Mongols are a warlike people similar to Japan, but lacking in this case the means to attack the Spanish scouts or knowledge of where their lands lie, a declaration of war is not immediately forthcoming. It is however, only a matter of time.

** Forgot to take a screenshot here, but basically a meeting of scouts due east of Karakorum(Mongolian capital), and southeast of Madrid(Spanish capital), several turns journey in both instances. **

3620 B.C. – Dateline: Moscow. Help did not come in time, and the citizens of the city were overrun by the Japanese invaders, who utterly destroyed the capital and with it the Russian civilization. Future historians would lament the annihilation of what was, in truth, the most innovative society, though short-lived, the world would ever bear witness to.

if iggys right you were talking about how walking on stilts isn't that great for the tenth time in the past five minutes (ONLY FIVE HOURS TILL NEW YEARS)

Happy New Year! And congratulations to the idiots at CBS and everywhere else who are calling it 2006, when we all know it is really 2012. In other news ...

LOL @ niffweed -- It was more like a very convenient set of circumstances -- well perhaps not so convenient for Russia. It's not like 17 civs is going to go SO much quicker than 17. Second 10-turn update coming soon. BTW I encourage all suggestions on the way I report this as its my first Civ story. I've got a thick skin so don't be afraid to pipe up if you think something sucks/is stupid.

Wow. I obviously meant that 17 isn't much different from 18. I'm not really drunk, I'm just posting like it ...

*sheepish grin*

This is a fine idea, Zorromorph, and I look forward to seeing this continue. It looks as if the civs on the bottom are suffering from their poor starting situations -- but the English are prospering despite their desert locale. Of course, at this point, you only need one good tile in your civic radius; the most blessed starting cities are apt to take off compared to the others only once multiple tiles are in play for the capital cities.

3580 B.C. – Mongol scouts acquired local knowledge in their travels leading to the technology of Mysticism.

Aztec scouts similarly discovered Masonry, the first civilization to do so.

Though I doubt we'll live long enough to see the end of this game.

Thanks to all for the thoughts and support. And now ...

3500 B.C. -- 25 turns in, and soon we'll be beginning an uptick in activity as by 3400 several civs will have workers out to start accelerating things, and we are possibly close to 'first contact' in a couple more cases. Here's an overhead shot of the world as each civ knows it, cerca 3500. I'm going to keep doing these every 25 turns for all civs, overall rankings every ten, and then every 50(first one in 3000, in other words), I'll do a more in-depth ranking including army size, pop, tech level, etc. Best balance I can find between boring everyone to death and giving a decent amount of info.

INDIANS

GREECE

JAPAN

EGYPT

ROME

ARABIA

PERSIA

SPAIN

Forgot to snap a couple shots, Spain and France. The area around the capital hasn't changed much since the first shot(early on page 1), and they explored south, then east, now going north so basically east-southeast of Madrid in a relatively narrow strip.

FRANCE

Paris basically hasn't changed at all, and they have no scouts yet. You aren't missing much here.

CHINA

MONGOLIA

MALI

That's all for now, the other 5 coming in the next post thanks to the image limit.
