Always one overpowering enemy on King - level

The game would be great if this did not happen, but the other option is to play to just the renaissance, or industrial era. Otherwise weaken the power civ as often as possible, and meet him in the modern era.

How dare the AI be competitive!

Competitive is an understatement. One civ that has two eras advantage in technology. In one of my games it was England. I thought I had the world sewed up with my triremes and just got to the Classical era. I thought I was doing wonderful, and here comes this fleet of SOTLs one after the other. Again on King Level, and by the time I would have frigates, England would have at least destroyers and subs.

It's rare but it happens. But that's what's nice about Civ5.

50% of the game plays out due to interactions between the Civs and the interplay between their strategies.

I wish the AI was more competitive with culture (i.e. culture-mongering AI don't make monuments, temples, etc which is just stupid. Also they only make 2 cities, and don't puppet many as part of their strategy).

I also wish the AI was more competitive but also CONSISTENT diplomatically, i.e. they should like you if you both fought an enemy together.
