I am thinking about building my first computer from scratch and have been able to find alot of information on Intel chipsets (intel and sis). I want to find a chipset that supports high end AMD cpu's, ddr 333, and agp 8x. Also a south brindge chipset that supports alot of USB's would be nice. Thanx for any suggestions.

nVidia nForce2, VIA KT400 based motherboards.

If you are not in a hurry you could wait SiS746 based boards.

I had a longer and better reply for your question written in notepad, but lost when I accidentally pasted something over it, so this'll have to do. Sorry.

Personally I'd steer away from the KT400 boards because of the compatibility problems many ppl have had with these and the performance issues the chipset in question has had. I think problems are the last thing you need if it'll be your first self assembled system.

If I'm babbling bull**** again, somebody set me staight :)

Thanks for the response, I was leaning towards the Nvidia chipset because I have liked their video cards in the past and I have never heard anything good about VIA chipsets for AMD or Intel. Thanks for the links!

My Abit brand mobo has been good to me and I haven't seen much complaints, if any, against Abit.

ABIT is IMO best mobo manufacturer, it uses as standard 3 phase power supply to processor, and all best and hi quality components.

ABIT is great, their products are high quality and they come with very good documentation.

Just make sure your case is big enough for the mobo. If in doubt, get a gigantic case ;)
