American Civil War II Scenario Development Thread

Smellincoffee: Mobile, Montgomery, Selma, Tuscaloosa, Talledega, Gadsden, Huntsville, and Decatur. This is the list from ACW, and I don't see it changing for ACW2. Birmingham did not come to prominence until the 1880's. Mobile is among the CSA's 5 largest cities.

Misfit: Definitely some items I will be looking at when I get Conquests.

Vicksburg will be VERY hard to assault, as it should be.

It's already one of the toughest CSA cities in ACW, but I'm intrigued as to how you are making it even harder in ACW2 (beyond the possibility of more/tougher units). Dare I ask for a screenie?

Can't put up a screenie yet because I'm not finished with the area around it.

So far, Vicksburg has Hills on 3 of its bordering squares on the south and east, swamp terrain on its 1 north square, river on the southwest and northwest, and another swamp on the west. There is a fortress on the south hill, and on the northeast hill. Most of the terrain on either side of the river (especially in Mississippi) will be swamp terrain. The only open terrain is to the east, toward Jackson. Vicksburg also will have both Walls and the Fortress improvement. And the city itself sits on a Hill.

New cities added to what region? So far I've added some 2 dozen cities or split them off from others (especially in the Boston and New York Metro areas).

I'm hoping to add more cities to the south as well, though the Union definitely is going to have an advantage in this area for ACW2. Some discussion though is going on in the ACW scenario thread about limiting population growth for smaller cities, which will have a large impact for both sides (especially the Union though).

I haven't quite worked my way up there yet, I'm working on MS to GA at the moment, then working my way north.

TN definitely will have several more cities added (Franklin, Shiloh and M-boro are on the immediate list, will have to research any others). It was a major battleground for the Civil War and I want players to be able to recreate some of those battles.

also what new wonders will be added?

i could probably find a few worthy things.

Haven't worked on buildings/wonders yet, a few ideas have been thrown around in the main ACW scenario thread.

maybe you could add the fortress rosecrans to M-boro or add something like Shiloh river to give Shiloh a better defense, etc.

I'm looking into doing city-specific wonder types, though that probably will only be really doable when I get Conquests and can make a Conquests version.

I'll work on the scenario some more tonight. Heading to work now.

Mississippi and Alabama are pretty much done cities wise now.

Iuka and Holly Springs were added to Mississippi. Decatur and Huntsville are now two separate cities in Alabama. Florence/Muscle Shoals has been added to Alabama. No other changes from ACW.

Tennessee so far Shiloh, Franklin, and Murfreesboro have been added, while Dalton and Roswell have been added to Georgia.

These are all important battles or areas for various campaigns from 1862 to 1864.

Decided to switch gears for a bit, and work on units.

For ACW2, the following movement will most likely be in:

Artillery - 1 MP
Infantry - 2 MP
Cavalry - 3 MP
Raiding Cavalry - 2 MP + ATR
Irregulars - 1 MP + ATR
Skirmishers - 2 MP + Blitz
Carbine Cavalry - 3 MP + Blitz
Militia - 1 MP
Scouts - 2 MP + ATR
Engineer - 2 MP
Slave - 1 MP

Roads - 1/2 movement point
Railroads - Civ3 style, with roads/no roads at junctions and most cities

This is a beta table for unit values/costs/abilities for ACW2's Infantry units (including divisions).

This is NOT set in stone, and is up for discussion.

One noticable thing, is that units are higher in A/D, and also are higher in cost (compared to ACW).

All CSA Infantry units (including Divisions) are given a small discount compared to their USA counterparts. CSA units are similar in cost because their A/D is higher in most units.

Profica: thanks. I tried playing ACW, but it's too large for my computer to handle. :(

ACW too large for your PC? What are the specs?

It is recommended you have a Pentium III 500 MHz (or higher) and 128 MB of RAM or more to run ACW on Civ3.

Load time for my computer was generally 3 to 5 minutes (Pentium III 600 MHz/384 MB RAM), so if your computer is lower than that, it will probably take more time.

Make sure you get either V3.8 or V3.91 of ACW as these load considerably faster on all machines. I have a Pentium IV 2.0 ghtz machine and I can load the scenario in less than 1 minute.

On the C3C versions: 3.9 and 3.91 there is (with 1.2 Ghz
Celeron and 512 MB RAM) zero waiting-time between turns!!!
