Well, the American Colonization Mod was intended to be a small scenario of mine.
But I saw that it is going to be a whole lot of work and I think it has the potential of being a very successful mod, now this is the first team project that I'm doing so I will detail a bit about the Mod\Scenario:
the American Colonization Mod is a scenario focusing on 17th-18th century North America, with the English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Swedish, Russian and Danish (in Greenland) are colonizaing NA. there are also 5 Native civs: Sioux, Iroqouis, Apache, Cree and Eskimo. Each Western state has some specific techs of their own simulating historical events in their Empires, Colonial supplies and what-if techs (If the Swedes survive they have techs that will help them expand their control on NA).
I already have a map and I completed city-placement + naming (all Historical) and the new Tech-Tree (with 30+ new techs).
I will need help in the following stuff:
Making tech bonuses with Python (adding units after a tech is researched, Resources, cash bonuses)
Adding graphics: Native American units + buildings, LHs (already made ones, just adding them) maybe a resource or two (Bison? Cotton?).
I want to have Forts that spread culture (I made that explorers build forts) with names and all that (like a type B city, maybe they will turn into cities?)
Custom civs (I currently use Aztec, Inca, Maya, Native and Mongol for the Natives and German and Viking for the Danes and Swedes).
Religions: Protestant, Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, Indian and Inuit. we can keep Judaism.
Maybe adding some events? Corporations?

I'm will work on making a unique civic for each Western State, changing and adding units to the new tech tree, messing with all the Worldbuilder stuff (leaders, Units, Population, Diplomacy and more), Buildings and all minor XML editing.

Now, any help will be fully appreciated: I will give you all the files you need and full credits or even being another author.

Lets build the best scenario ever! :D

It's for CIV but I doubt that most people will buy the new Colonization.

I must give you props for including a variety of civs. You probably want to check for Dale's colonization mod before you begin though, since it was very well developed. I believe it was for plain vanilla civ4.

Well, the origional game was a classic, so unless they really foul it up badly, it should be a great game. I just wanted to mention Colonization before you worked too hard on this, because this kind of project can be a life consuming endeavor.

Also, Col will be every bit as moddable as Civ, so even if you don't like the way Col is presented, there will be many new mechanics built in that you still might want to take advantage of. (Cargo on ships, bison resources, etc.)

I would seriously wait on this project if I were you, as release is only a month away and your opinions what your mod will need to stand out will change greatly. If you are a Civ fan who also happens to have an interest in this time period, you will absolutely not want to miss Colonization! You gotta trust me on that.

Found it! Been reading your 1st post, but I'm not sure how I can help out... Python, graphics and modding in general isn't really my stuff, being just a 'scenario guy' and all. (What I did for MOO2Civ was mostly xml editing.) Also, I seem to remember a Colonization mod being in progress and with Dale's North America 1492-1792 you're definitely up against some stiff competition.

As for the Forts, I think there's a modcomp for it.

Anyway, seeing as you already have a map, what's the extent? (Does it include the Caribbean?) Can I have a look at it?

Even if I can't help out, I'm still curious how it'll turn out.;)

I can do the python parts. Adding gold/units/etc.. when a tech is discovered. We can have some native uprisings too ;)

IIRC the problem with fort culture is that it's normally not possible to build forts outside of cultural borders. Is this what you want? I think there is a mod/modcomp for this.

Spreading culture from forts is easy, but cultural borders from forts I'm not so sure about  That is probably SDK, which I don't have the capability to do.

update:
Yes, forts can indeed have borders just from python:

JEELEN, you can even help out with Historical information, like city lists and such.
I'll check the Fort mod and see how it is played, here are some files:

There's the modified tech tree, it might need some more changing but I am done with adding techs, (I can still change tech requirements and description names)
And I also added the map for JEELEN, its just an empty map with cities nothing else. You'll need to remove some techs in the Worldbuilder if you want to check it, because it has some custom techs.

Checked the mod, I'll add it but it would be nice to have forts that expand their borders with culture, like an average city.

Downloaded, will have a look.;)

Not sure what to say about the CIV4TechInfos, but the map looks fine. (Although you might make St Johns/Newfoundland an actual isle by changing one tile to Coast.)

CIV Gold and RoM mods use several Native leaderheads; you might want to check those out. Found these for
Chinook - Kamiakin
Iroquois - Minihaha (Tecumseh was a later leader)
Adena - Powhatan
Anasazi - Chaco.
By the early 18th century horses and gunpowder had been acquired by the Comanches, Lakota/Dakota and Apaches (not yet led by 'Geronimo'); at present day Seattle there was a coastal tribe led by a chief Seal'th, after which the city was named.
In Canada (from the native 'Kanata') there were the Algonkin and Inuit (further north).

In your Earth 1600-1790 AD scenarios I noticed several names of forts, but here are some just in case:
British - Forts Rupert, Albany & Churchill (Hudson Bay)
French - Forts St Pierre, Sault Sainte Marie, Niagara (Great Lakes), Duquesne (Iroquois/Ohio river), Hudson (above New Orleans).

Many present day state, city, river, lake and mountain names in North and Central America have Native names.

Well, this project is closed. (with all my other modding and scenario-making developments)
I'm currently stopping all my modding and \CivIV stuff, mainly because it is getting a bit of boring for me...
I will still keep updating my existing files and visit this forum now and than. but no more modding from me...
Good bye everyone! :)
