There is an opinion that violent media and video games has caused an explosion in violent crime in general. But there is no evidence or statistics that suggests it is true.
Gangs and gang cultures has existed in America since its birth. God knows how long it has existed in the UK and the world in general.
While, I agree that gagster rap has mostly negative influences, I doubt its the true source of demand for guns in the UK. I doubt most UK criminals would go through the trouble and expenses of buying a black-market handgun because they saw Americans use them on TV or in movie. They get them for the intended use of a black-market gun, which is crime.
Either way "gangster" (And I'm not talking about the everyday suburbanite "gangster" rap kids) is generally considered a subculture that results from poverty and crime in Black and Latino communities.
And thus if American gangster style violence appeals to Britain's minorities then that probably has more to do with their own poverty stricken surroundings. Just like in the US. Not really something you can blame on Americans.
