Amra's ALH Modpack for v1.61 (using Animated Leaderheads)

Amra, its a good mod but lowering the production cost of military units might make it more interesting. Waiting so many turns for units to build is a flaw civ has, and it impacts upon excitement and the possibility of epic wars etc. Im sure if you tested this it would be more enjoyable.

hey arma, perhaps you can help me,

i wonder -how can i make the baberian more aggressive? and some tweaks to make the ai harder?
Hey Keldath, How are things over there? Hope you and your family are staying safe. Regarding barbarians and overall AI strength: I'm sorry but I haven't messed with that so I don't know. Other than turning on the "raging barbarians" option during gameplay, that is.

This is the first time I have ever modded a game to this extent so I have tried to leave the core gameplay (for better or worse) alone and just add more civs, UU's, etc for now for fear of breaking the game, so to say.

However, after Warlords comes out and I start working on version 2 of my modpack, I may feel a little more emboldened to change items such as the unit cost, civics, etc. Right now, though, I've tried to leave that to the more expert civ modders, such as Sevo.

hey arma,

thanks for careing :) - it suprises me that you knew im in israel,
im pretty far from the events, but - it deffently feels like war, maybe semi-war..

thank you again.

well, the ai....thanls anyway- have you done a full game yet in your mod? how was the ai?.
i have two more things to do , the ill make the 3uu compatible with yours.

You're able to do it yourself.
There's a line for each unit (hammer's cost) in Amra's ALH Modpack\Assets\XML\Units\CIV4UnitInfos.xml : <iCost>XXX</iCost>

Personally, I prefer to concentrate on Trade, Diplomacy, etc...
I don't want "war" to be an easy thing to do. If the Chineses (friendly) decide to build a city just 4 squares from me and it becomes a real problem, well, then, maybe the only solution is to eliminate from the map the city in question.
But war has a cost. High usually. In every aspects. People's mood, trade, diplomacy, etc.

for now for fear of breaking the game, so to say.
:agree:

I only focus on war because diplomatic options are few. If someone could add sanctions, the ability to really put on pressure, internationally malign other civ option it would be great. Sure somebody is working on expanding trade and diplomatic options.

Try the "Warlord" level, Islands (1 for each Civ), Huge map, Marathon speed, Space Race Victory.
I did. Not so easy. I'm not willing to try the next level for now.

I understand. And sometimes, I feel the need to modify the MOD too. Then, I try to add the new modifications myself.

Everyone, please feel free to modify my modpack anyway you like. It is impossible to please everyone and make the perfect mod.

I'm not making any $$$ off of this and am only doing it for the pleasure and relaxation it offers (as I tell my wife when she asks what I am doing on the computer all the time: "You'd rather I go out drinking at a strip club?") so I am not offended if anyone changes things after they download my modpack. To me, the fun is in the doing. Hopefully, this modpack gives a lot of players a good base to expand upon so that you can all enjoy the game. :D

Call me Sherlock. Your favorite civ is Israel and I've read a few of your posts in your UU mod threads. That, and you always spell A-M-R-A as A-R-M-A (right to left, instead of left to right). I'm not an expert and am just guessing, but doesn't reading and writing in Israel go from right to left? Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you are doing okay.

I started a game 3 days ago with my resource patch, got half way through it and then put it on hold to help Civ Gold with about 5 leaderheads. I'm finishing the 4th right now (each one takes about 3 hours to do as I tend to be meticulous about them) and hope to do the last one tonight or tomorrow. Toys-R-Us seems to be playing the mod quite a bit and says that he is having some good games however.

I tell my wife when she asks what I am doing on the computer all the time: "You'd rather I go out drinking at a strip club?")

EXACTLY the same thing here. And she appreciates the fact that I'm at home!
:goodjob:

hey sherlock...:)

well - you know - i havent noticed that i write arma instead of amra... its so weird... you write hebrew is right to left... good one!

i tried to add a recource too, and i had trouble with a python file, so i left it out, i decided to use the sevo vanilla for game tweaks,
i hope that ill be able to adapt my mod to yours soon, i have a test at the end of the month... then ill be free...
and we will also have warlords...

amra i will probably download this but what are some of the differences between this and sevomod. to me they look basically the same
Sevomod adds a lot more wonders, buildings, etc and changes the core gameplay, including civics, leader traits, etc. He also changes things such as not displaying any resources at the start of the game, each resource does not display without reasearching a tech. Basically, I have tried to keep the vanilla gameplay (for better or worse) the same while adding more Civs & units. In future versions (post Warlords) I may try redoing some of those things, but I haven't worked up to that yet.

I'm confused here, aren't resources always hidden until a tech reveals them?

Not all of them such as corn, wheat, etc. This is from Sevo's thread, post#1:
23) Resource ignorance -- "Fair start" variant first done by Fujisan as an add-on for Sevomod 2.0; ALL resources now have reveal techs: Mining: Gems, Gold, Silver; The Wheel: Stone; Agriculture: Banana, Rice, Wheat, Corn, Sugar; Fishing: Clam, Fish, Crab, Pearls; Sailing: Whale, Silk; Animal Husbandry: Cow, Horse, Pig, Sheep; Hunting: Fur, Deer, Ivory; Pottery: Dye, Salt, Coffee; Mysticism: Incense, Spices, Wine; Masonry: Marble; Priesthood: Sulphur; Monarchy: Cotton. If your civ is too primitive to understand the value of a thing, you shouldn't know it's there! Plus this will add some variety to the starting techs as they now also dictate what you know when you start the game and might change your initial strategy (as opposed to just chop-rusing all time)! Finally, since mysticism-starting civs usually race for religions, they have a cluster of "weaker" resources (well, they can't be used until plantations are available), which might balance things just a teeeeeny bit. *shrug*.
It is definitely an interesting idea, as is a lot of the things Sevo does. I just don't feel confident in making big changes to the gameplay like that... yet. So I've just tried to offer an expansion pack to the people who are just starting to play Civ4 or maybe those who have played it and, for the most part, like the way Vanilla civ4 plays.

I'm better at leaderheads, than Python & XML. :D

tibet already exist on http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=144434
and don't look like Mao

can you do the modification ?
Hmm, I missed that civ by CivArmy when I did my Tibet civ. Unfortunately, I can't create a brand new leaderhead 3D model, I can only modify an existing one by reskinning it and in some cases, removing parts of the 3D model (such as removing the crown from Victoria/Maria Theresa).

I felt that the Mao 3D model offered the closest appearance to Songtsen Gampo that I could achieve. I realize that there may be some political incorrectness in that choice but I hoped, and am of the opinion, that this is just a game and the animations of Asoka changed Mao's appearance quite a bit.

I've played a couple of games with the added resources and saw no problems whatsoever. I appreciate the addition of Brewery/Tavern to make a little more food. It always seemed odd to me that with so many technologies, so few addressed this basic need.

If your goal was to enhance the game without making fundamental changes, you have succeeded very, very well. I would sooner pay for ALH than for Warlords.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that the resource patch isn't screwing anything up and I liked the Barley/Brewery/Tavern connection too. I won't charge you for the modpack, but maybe a couple bucks for the beer.
