Something rather interesting happened on my first Deity game.
I was shooting for Military Science for the horseman upgrade, and I produced a knight at my capital in order to trigger the Eureka (Kill a unit by Knight). I was timing the completion of Military Science on the same turn I would finish a Civic tech so I get to swap the Civic cards on that turn. The goal is to take advantage of the "50% reduction in upgrade cost" Civic I had active then by upgrading all my horsemen and then switch out that Civic card after that in the same turn. It's all perfect timing.
I wasn't at war with anyone so I searched the map for a barbarian. Luckily enough, I found a barbarian camp tucked away in a tundra land. I sent the knight over, and also sent a musketeer from the closest city as a zone control until the knight arrived. Since the barbarian fortified in the camp is a pikeman my knight didn't kill it in the first attack but it did reduce its health bar to red. Then on the next turn, the pikeman initiated an attack on my musketeer and basically committed suicide. So I failed to trigger the Eureka and it completely threw off my timing. I ended up finished Military Science 3 turns later and got stuck with the upgrade cost reduction Civic card for 5 more turns. AI of course would not know all that, but to have the intuition to commit suicide in that scenario is almost human.
