An old idea reborn: Ministry of Finance and Labor

No on this proposal , because worker handling has to be in line with city production and growth and thus need to be given to the province governors, not to some centralized "authority". :goodjob:

Unless we expect incompetent governors, but then we might expect an incompetent MFL as well. :(

What I want to know is, why is everyone against something that was origanally under Domestic's control? Back when the demogame was first created, each advisor controlled whatever they saw on their respected advisor screen.

Because the old system gave the domestic department way too much power. Back then the domestic leader was also the governor of our core (and hence most productive cities). Had jurisdiction over wonder building, too. The whole premise of the democracy game is to make coolective decisions and we've been trying to do that by splitting up the responsibility for organising this decision making process. Taking the slider control away from domestic was a step in the right direction. Putting on the Senate was a step in the wrong direction for two reasons. First of all the Senators are really governors who have enough to do organising the cities in their provinces. Secondly, this whole business of having the Senators vote on proposals simply does not work since we want a couple game play sessions a week. We need one person to be responsible for posting slider instructions (just as we need one person setting provincial borders).

There is another thread about the presidential office lacking desirability. Why not kill a couple birds with one stone and let the President be responsible for organising the slider decisions (and cash rush requests) and making provincial borders? These are both national in scope anyway.

EDIT: I am also against the latest proposal. At the risk of sounding like an old-timer stuck in the past, the DP has always been in charge of worker actions. Being DP is bad enough having to follow minute instructions about moving military units and dealing with all manner of contingent orders, having to deal with orders for all the workers would make being DP absolutely unpalatable. I suggest we just concentrate on creating a fiscal officer. Organisin the slider settings and cash rushes is enough responsibility for one official anyway.

I have said it before, but I thought that sliders and workers should be under the President. Workers already are - what is the compelling reason to change it? Sliders with the Senate don't work. We don't need another Minister just for that and the President would then be able to change them during the chat as needed. It would also give the the President more to be responsible for as the position lacks in that area now.

Nope, not in this thread at least, which is just about 2 weeks old.

You are right, I have not posted it in this thread (I did not mean to imply that I had); but, it has been posted on this subject before. I wish I could have posted my thoughts in this thread before, but I have less time to post in these forums than I would like.
