Hello my fellow Civ-Fanatics! Infrared here, long time lurker first time poster. Recently I've had trouble finishing a game - either I do too well or too badly on different difficulties, and it doesn't help that high level "Let's Play"s make this all seem easy -- but then I had a roleplay idea.
What will we be doing? Building up and then dissolving our state - leaving our citizens with full self governance over their well being. Of course, this is all for naught if our civilization is not immortalized in human history.
Goals:
- Automate all citizens, production, and workers by 1500AD (although since our goal isn't to be decentralised completely in this regard, emphasis on yields is permitted.)
- Use Civics Universal Suffrage/Free Speech/Emancipation/State Property/Free Religion
- Create a just society that can stand the test of time.
- Win by culture, domination (considering this is normal terra, this probably can't be done), diplomacy, or space race.
Restrictions:
- Workers have no use for war, they can be militant but cannot DoW or start hostilities.
- Cities captured by the human must not be razed (although 1-pop autorazes cannot be helped)
- Only Civics Despotism, Representation, Universal Suffrage, Barbarism, Free Speech, Tribalism, Emancipation, Decentralisation, State Property, Paganism, and Free Religion are permitted.
Settings:
Prince Difficulty, Terra Map, Cylindrical, Normal Size, Temperate, Medium Sea Level, Ancient Start, Epic speed. No huts, no random events.
On with the show!
Here is our Glorious Leader, Willem Van Oranje. He has amazing potential due to the fact that he has CRE libraries, one of the best buildings in the game. It synergies with the FIN trait meaning research should not be a problem for us.
Our start:
SIP, revealed corn to the west. Two dry food and two luxuries in the BFC, this capital will be more than sufficient. We can easily wet the corn and the rice after civil service if the cities' irrigation doesn't do it by itself. We have two rivers identified which will keep our coffers happy when we cottage up.
Teching hunting to work the ivory, which will help our tech pace on route to Bronze working which will be necessary to clear out the capital. In the mean time there's farms to be built.
First Rival Met, the warlike ruler of the Mongols - Kublai Khan! The scouting envoy reports low morale after their brief correspondence with their peers.
We slowly scouted a good chunk of the world and here's our roster for the game:
Currently, we are aligning with Louis and Isabella - two zealots who will spam us with missionaries, which will hopefully be Buddhist. Boudica is founder of Hinduism, but is too far away for me to worry about. Wong Kon is for some trade income only, and the diplo is nice. I'm purposely alienating Kublai Khan as feeding him gold to modernize (okay, classicalize) his war machine will only do more harm than good. If all goes well, Isabella will shield me from all attacks.
The known world at 1500BC (Turn 100)
Currently, the peoples' soviet is based upon primitive tribes. In time, our society will grow and become more complex, free, and efficient. If it seems to be off to a slow start - don't worry, I'm sure it'll pick up!
To be continued in the next segment.
