Anarchy Game discussion thread

Someone had said this before, but I like to reiterate that in order for Anarchy games to succeed, there should be some handover mechanism. Else a game-master (or game-puppet if you will ;) ) would get tired of it very soon, making anarchy games more of a passing faq than anything.

It will be better to have two or three game-puppets handing over the anarchy game, so that the game gets run throughout the clock. This way will be more anarchy, because then it will involve more players giving commands at different time of day.

agreed 100%. not only would this allow the anarchy games to actually function as games, but it would eliminate the need for people to go out and start their own anarchy games since they could be a puppet for the current one.

Well then, I'm going to initiate a free-for-all handoff system for my game. I post the save, next puppet picks it up and runs it. Whenever the next puppet logs out they must post the save and let the next guy take it. If they don't hand it off, we'll have to smack em or something :hammer:. We'll see how it goes. This forum in general needs more people. =\

If you're posting save files, then people will get into World Builder and see what's going on in the world. Then you'll have lots of people with pre-knowledge....

Surely you'd only want to give the save to a proper, volunteer puppet?

Edit: Oh, and whilst I can see the merits of passing a game on when I go to bed...I won't be doing it if I run another game, because its my game, and I want to be the one who runs it. Sorry :)

Hi All - happy to be a puppet master if required. I think the issue with world builder (ie see what is to come) can be overcome by selecting 'no cheating'. The other option is to leave it in (how much advantage is there to seeing the whole map?). Also, I would allow worldbuilder commands but only to the extent that nothing is really changed - I would allow a command like "create a modern tank, set it to explore and disband when it nexts asks for a command".

I think there should be a master 'tBLoOCaOTTD' (second post maybe) that is kept current by the puppet. This will mean that the posts don't get too long with repeated info.

Adding modern stuff to an Anarchy game through World Builder upon request (order), could be fun. A nice local variant rule that a puppet could impose. Someone would probably come along though, and order you to go to war with China, and give them 100 modern tanks in the year 4000BC, and place them next to your first settler. That someone would probably be called niffweed17  :goodjob:   :D

^Ummmm. Yeah that does sound kinda like him...

Argh are you starting a new one??

Well, it doesn't work if no one decides to take the save....

Anyway, no cheating was enabled, so no one could get into the world builder.

Well, I'd just like to say I love the idea of an "Anarchy" game, seems like a lot of fun. Lots of pages though for not as many turns though. I'd like to propose opening an IRC channel for the AG's where people can discuss without spamming up the actual thread. Might also help for people who don't know what's going on anymore, they can just check in the channel and get a quick update.

It's nice that there are a bunch of games going on but some regulation might be necessary. Having too many games might hurt participation. Though I guess you could just leave that in anarchy as well :p .

Well, only a small problem there, you always need the thread to know what's really going on and swapping for discussion forth and back isn't fun. After all, discussions in the game threads are pretty rare so far.

It's up to the individual whether or not to start a new one. Games that are progressed will certainly keep the old crowd, new ones attract players that want to start from scratch and don't enjoy reading 30 pages in order to get up to date.
