Anarres versus ERIKK PBEM

Here is my troop of reserve cavalry, they were hidden just out of sight last turn:

These forces attacked the muskets on the grasslands to the north of Istanbul, then softened up Istanbul for the main force.

My SoD attacks Istanbul, and kills 9 Cav and 1 Musket. I take the city, forgetting to raze it, so I abandon it instead.

Stats: 4 cav losses. 15 cavs and 4 muskets killed.

On the eastern front, last turn I have moved my 2nd division in to position:

I take madras to the south, killing 6 muskets and 1 warrior for 1 cav loss. I capture a cannon and bombard the pike to the south.

The Greeks have taken the Americans in such a huge show of force that they have surrendered!

Here is a minimap at the end of turn 176:

My invasion force consisted of over 100 cavalry and 50 hoplites. Over 4000 gold was spent on upgrading horsement to cavalry.

I had built an FP quite early in a city close to my capital like ERIKK, during my Golden Age.

Since then my basic strategy was:
- build leonardo's workshop
- change to republic from monarchy
- make sure all cities had marketplaces
- build hoplites and horesmen
- research military tradition, then save gold
- mass upgrade to cavalry

This has been an amazingly fun game to play. I look forward to the rematch I have already promised ERIKK.

Good, I am ready for a new game, this time on Emperor, 6 AI's, Pangea 60% water, temperate, 5 billion. As in all my PBEM games the expansiniostic treat has given me no settler, so I'll choose Egypt to play with this time. If you're addcition tells you to start a game right away (like mine ), for you the hounor to set it up!

Yeah that was a bummer... But I was defentitely finished off after 2 turns. In like 10 or 20 turns he would have conquered all my territory.

Only in size and under F11, but not in (offensive) military....

Bet?
I would never bet against Anarres. I have too much respect for his play - and I knew what was coming here.

The best chance against him was to hit hard and first and hope to take out his SoD before it rolled over.

hmm. I will wait a day or so as I need to reconnect myself with reality.

Our game should be on Deity for the AI, especially since our difficulty will be cheiftain. Maybe we should set our difficulty to emperor or deity as well in the editor (sumthinelse knows how to do this).

What do you think? Make it a real challenge for us?

Well, if one us does not have a good or moderate starting location he is f*cked. But if our diffculty is on chieftain it is fine with me. Let just keep it that way and have a clausule that if one of us is in the desert or jungle we start over.

It was interesting loading the saves of both players a few years before the end and seeing the different approaches. Erikk had the more complete civ in terms of development . Anarres had a lot of horsemen, more coming and intimimated his strategy to me.

In the end that avalanche of cavalry swept the board before riflemen or infantry were available.
