I (playing as Celts) was sharing a continent with the japanese and the romans. I noticed that the japanese were in control of a massive amount of ivory. The only other ivory was a single tile located somewhat outside of my core but since i like the SOZ and did not want the japanese to get it I decided to found a city there anyway and connect the ivory. Meanwhile i set my research path in the direction of the required tech for the SOZ and started the Oracle as a prebuild.
That all worked perfectly, i founded a town, connected the ivory and was able to switch to SOZ and finish it.
So now the strange phenomenon occurs that I did not know the wheel nor horsebackriding but was able to build mounted units :p .
I think this is strange, ok building the SOZ requires ivory, but are the horses also made out of ivory? I think the ability to generate the ancient cavalry should also require access to horses.

Well, it is the nature of the WONDER! Zeus obviously summons the horses from wherever they exist and, voila!

There are many flaws inside of this game, that's just one of them.

Yup, it is illogical to have horsemen without horses, but some would say that if you make the cavalry require horses, you will make the wonder weaker than it was meant to be. A fix might be to make it require the horses, but make them appear a bit more often.

Then again, everything depends on how balanced the wonder was intended to be in the first place. I made the ancient cavalry require the horses as well without changing anything else about them.

The same strange thing is about the knights templar. It's producing fully armed crusaders without needing iron.

you can make ancient cavalry without horse but you need ivory, and you can make elephants without ivory but you need horses.

yeye... hehe, it's pretty odd indeed... but i think that what they meant was for SoZ and later the templars to act as independent organisations, (read: Cults) like at least the templars were in real history ...beeing hired/used by you, the builder of the temple and the supplier of resources.
Or in some other way connected/affiliated with your nation.

"you can make ancient cavalry without horse but you need ivory, and you can make elephants without ivory but you need horses."

i meant Indian war elephants but now i checked, you don't need horses to bulid war elephants.

Well doh, thats whats "unique" about that unique unit. Its same like knight but you dont need neither horses nor iron.
Beside how would you "make" elephants with ivory? Are you in some necromantic cult so you would use their bones to resurect them?!?!
