Blue Monkey and I are working on a Civ III scenario about the rise of Ashoka and the spread of Buddhism in India. We would appreciate the assistance of anyone who is knowlegeable on the history, economy, and politics of that period. At the moment, we are attempting to develop a list of Indian "civs" in existence when Chandragupta started the Mauryan expansion. Does anyone have an answer?

PM karalysia and ask him for help. He is pretty knowledgeable about Indian history. Many NESers also have a good grasp of Asian history.

India =/ Asia

India =/ Asia

Well, it is technically. But the phrase "Asian history" describes something so very broad that it's almost useless. You might as well say "history of half the world of a basillion different civilisations that have minimal connection to each other".

i am not a history fan. all i know was that the society had been divided into several casts by their time, based on the social function they were supposed to carry out. the factions were called the Ksatrias (warriors) , Brahmins (preists), Baishyas (traders and farmers) & Shudras (served the other three groups). Brahmins were not supposed to be rulers, and was generally frowned upon.

there were already the practice of brothels in India.

Trade was known to happen with kingdoms on the bank of Iravaty(Irrawaddy of today) and with SriLanka. Also opium trade with China was popular, hueang-tsang visited Maurya kingdom and studied Buddhism.
