There's been some discussion on the possible benefits/losses in building ancient wonders, and especially the Pyramids. I suggest keeping the discussion in the dpt of wonders-thread and have this one for voting only, how it works only anarchy can tell :crazyeye: . This is to be seen as something that can change with the action during ancient age, but still a guideline.

I voted for pyramids, SoZ, & Great Lighthouse BUT only with a SGL.

Pyramids, Colossus and SoZ; I'd really like to make it stealthy though - like a full palace prebuild for the Pyramids and SoZ if possible, and in all circumstances, build another wonder for the pre-build.

As I've said before the pyramids would be overpowering for us. If we start building it, it will force the others to consider building it as well.

I also think ToA for the culture and happies, and SoZ would be very smart builds for us.

Let's use a first ring, non-settler factory city for a pre-build.

completely agree with bugs on this one. Others have said to build it in a 2nd ringer that is just getting planted. We will lose it then.

This idiotic nomadish bear also approves this stratagem

If we do the pyramids...can we have a back up plan where we do this on the coast so we have a fall back plan on the GLight?

Could always fall back on the FP too. To me, only Pyramids and perhaps the SoZ make any sense. I'm still not at all eager to build any wonders, but some of them like the ToA are even worse choices than others. :)

I'm not sure what to vote for in the poll though. If I vote for "Pyramids" and "SGL only" I bet people will think I want to build the pyramids.

The only wonders I'm interested in in the AA are Pyramids, GLight, SoZ, and maybe ToA. GL would allow us to catch up to any ship, since no one is Seafaring.
But, I don't really want to build any wonders without an SGL, unless it's in a city that's not needed for military, workers, or settlers, and I doubt we'll have any cities like that in the first ring.

I'd much rather have 10 Gallics (or however many would be the same as the SoZ) now, then spend the same amount of time building the SoZ, and then get just 1 AC (which is pretty much the same as a GS, except for the extra hitpoint) every 5 turns.

I don't think SoZ make much sense because we have GS. Pyramids is my preferred choice, or maybe Light, but only with a SGL.

I voted SGL only. You guys can make the choice of which one, should we have that opportunity.

Remember, that having a wonder in the hands of a human is much different than having a wonder in the hands of the AI. We need to deny them from the other teams more than we need them ourselves. Although the pyramids would make our population explode. Remember Sullla's law: pop=power.

SoZ = Free GSs every five turns

Pyramids would make us grow bigger, but wouldn't they also trigger our GA? IIRC, they're ind/agr/rel, right? Also, we'd have to dedicate a city to it, instead of helping our expansion and later military. 400 shields seems too much to me.

It seem that the discussion will be in here anyway but that's perfectly allright. Many good points are made indeed. When the time comes for a possible wonder town I will summarize this thread and make a propousal on how to deal with it. I have voted for the GLight because I think control of the seas can be a huge factor in :hammer: -times. I think we should build it even without a SGL, but NOT if it puts our defence ability in danger. I'll leave that to be judged by the military experts.

Good point pentium, it would indeed trigger our GA. That's a think-twice-about-it.

Uhhuh. I'd choose Pyramids and an early GA over no Pyramids and later GA any time. The effect the Pyramids have on economy and production due to increased growth is much much greater than what would be lost because of a little earlier GA.
