Good heavens - Brontosaurus isn't a real dinosaur name any more! CLEAR DISREGARD for historical accuracy ONCE AGAIN from a Total War game, this will RUIN immersion for me.

I wish this were real

That'd be funnier if Firaxis got hired to develop the project.

I hear it got delayed to February 31, 2013.

According to Wikipedia, the official name has been Apatosaurus since 1903, so I wouldn't expect the common name to change anytime soon. And at least when I was in school in the '90s, we were taught the name as Brontosaurus first, so there's generations still growing up knowing Brontosaurus.

Ironically, my spell checker doesn't recognize Apatosaurus. When I right-click on the word for suggestions, the first suggestion is Brontosaurus. So it looks like Total War isn't the only one you'll have to go on crusade against.

But yeah, this actually sounds like it could be a cool and quite different game if they went through with it and made it. I'd at least consider buying it.

Ha! We actually learned about this in my Dinosaur class. Apparently the story goes that the Apatosaurus was discovered, and then later on another dinosaur was discovered and named Brontosaurus. However sometime (in the 90s iirc) it was discovered that Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus were actually the same dinosaur, and because Apatosaurus was the name given first, they both became Apatosaurus. The same thing almost happened to Triceratops, but there was enough of a difference between the other dinosaur that it squeaked by.

Pft, none of this is particularly interesting next to the Tarbosaurus and Nanotyrannus controversies.
