Animals can use roads?

A bear just ate my settler. From two tiles away. I had laid out a road to my new site, and the bear was sitting on the road. Chomp. Hooray for boobies.

It was a more modern bear from the circus, not one of those backwoods types.
It carries a Unicycle incase it finds a road to use it on. Then, off it goes!

I guess all the barb units can use roads. I was wondering if a barb wolf (move 2) could leap 4 steps forward using a road. Wouldn't that be a nice surprise?

To me the most amazing demonstration of Civ animal sentience is their ability to peacefully coexist on the same tyle as human barbs. You don't see it very often since they normally disappear when barbs start spawning, but it turns out that animals are not wild insensate beasts, but actual barb units with an agenda. Using roads is probably the least of their nefarious ploys, damn them.

Unprotected settlers isn't necessarily a bad idea, but you need the fogbusters so you know where the barbs are and can avoid them.
