I know theres been SO MUCH on this so please dont beat me down immediatly, but I just thought maybe this angle hadnt been taken and I do value peoples thoughts so here goes.

I know people say about annaxation that the minute a human player is annexed they would go straight for the "new game" button but I THINK I have a way round that,

1) You are the Annexor: You take a certain amount of cities PLUS their Capital and you get the option to annex the rest of their nation in diplomacy if you do then their nations colour turns to a lighter or darker shade of yours. Then a bar appears in the military advisors screen (doesnt have to be military I just used that as an example) showing how much of that nations tax to take and add to your coffers in percentages. Obviously the lower you take the more accepting the nation is, and the higher the tax the more chance they want to break free, and claim independence. Though that cannot be done for a set amount of turns, and maybe when the nation becomes officially "annexed" all troops that they had remaining would be turned over to the conquering nation, so new troops have to be made from scratch, that way it would stop instant breakaways. Over time, if you decide you no longer wish to annex the nation you could grant it independence yourself via diplomacy, that way the nation could give you a good rate in trades? Iam not sure of that I didnt give that part much thought.

2) If you are the ANNEXED nation: Much the same as above but in order to work out how much the annexor would tax you would be how aggressive that particular Civ is and possibly what relations were like before you went to war with them. You would still control what to build in your cities Seeing as you would need to build your military from scratch would prove a good challenge if you were determined to claim independence, or if you prefered being part of the stronger nations bosom so to speak you can stay put. When you finally gain enough troops you can force independence or if you build relations with the other nation, ask via diplomacy, though I cant think why the AI would volenterrily GIVE you independence maybe thats something someone else can answer for me as this is my first idea. You cannot declare war on anyone but are dragged into any war that your owner nation is at war with.

Any questions anyone has, please feel free to ask and i'll TRY to answer or if not if anyone has an answer or a better way then feel free!

:help: :help: :thanx: :thanx:

We already did a post on this, Please try to remember these things in the Future.

I said I already knew, I just wanted peoples thoughts on my idea.

Its not like he can really search either. The search feature is dissabled for some reason..

I like it. Reminds me of some feature in Civ2 or it might have been Civ1 when a broken nation fell into two partisan groups (which version was that in?) That was cool and quite playable.

Civ 1 - as far as I remember :)

Yeah that was cool. They became a collection of barbarian towns. A bit primitive but it would be a cool feature if brushed up.

in civ2, if you took the capital of a large nations, change would sweep though the land leaving two nations at war with each other, the originals and a new one. this only happened when you had less than the maximum amount of civs, It was funny because somtimes the Zulus would split and out would pop France

The Civ 2 model was kind of fun sometimes but the impact of civil war was too drastic and too unpreventable.

I hope they bring it back, but I hope it's more gradual and dynamic than your empire spontaneously combusting. Moreover, I would hope that there's ways to crush the breakaway state so quickly that they agree to join up again (like the American Civil War).

I like this idea because i don think it is reasonable to HAVE to take every city of a civ to destroy it. Once a certain amount of cities have been caprtured, the civ probably wants to give up. haha

I think part of the problem we are having here is in WHAT annexation means. To annex part of a nation is to lay claim to captured territory politically. i.e. there is a difference between merely invading a nation, and annexing it (with the former often preceding the latter). This difference makes a strong appearance in SuperPower 1 and 2!
With this in mind, I think it would be excellent if you could reduce the amount of direct resistance by a city's inhabitants, by seeking out the city's original owner and signing an 'annexation' agreement with them. If you get this political agreement, then the city becomes truly YOURS and the people-realising they have been abandoned by their parent nation, will become a LITTLE more co-operative.
Of course, giving away cities to an invader in this fashion should cause increased unhappiness for that nation.
As for civil war. I support it greatly, but feel that losing your capital should NOT lead to an automatic civil war. It should, however, be a potential trigger for a civil war which is already-shall we say-brewing (i.e. losing your capital could be the 'straw that broke the camels back')

This idea is ok, but needs some improvements:
- You can only annex a civ who has less than 3~8 cities (accordingly to map size) - good to avoid eliminating some civs and lowering your reputation;
- Annexed civs will keep their own units, but won't have any diplomatic choices: what the annexor decide they will follow. It includes all civics, as religious, social and economic choices;
- If one unit from an annexed civ conquer one city, it will be part of annexed civ territory, not annexor;
- If the annexed civ conquers several cities, getting 6~16 (2x max number of cities for annexation accordingly to map size), this civ will have an option to declare independence. Of course, it can keep annexed and trying to increase its number of cities;
- If annexor capital is conquered, all annexed civs will be independent, getting their diplomacy options back and having chance to make peace with the aggressor;
- If annexor territory is reduced to a certain number of cities, mass independence (as above) happens.

Wow, I'm inspired today :D.
