Anno Domini - a full mod from R8XFT

Well, why not Akkadia? It was widely recognized as the first true empire in Mesopatamia.

Why not indeed ;) . Would the city list be a mixture of Babylonian/Assyrian ones? I presume (but don't know) that the capital would be Akkad?

You've convinced me. I'll do Akkadia.

@Sword_Of_Geddon : If you'd like to vote for five from the list, there's still time :) .

I suppose my vote goes to Siam, your leaderhead is great and I use it in my own mod, and I'd love to see how you treat it in your mod.

Thanks for the vote, but Siam are already there - they have the required five votes. The current state of play is:

Kievan Rus - 5 votes - in the mod!
Minoa - 5 votes - in the mod!
Siam - 5 votes - in the mod!
Briganitia - 4 votes
Hittites - 4 votes
Gauls - 3 votes
Khazar - 3 votes
Troy - 3 votes
Etrusca - 2 votes
Numidia - 2 votes
Harrappa - 2.5 votes*
Scythia - 2.5 votes*
Goths - 2 votes
Yamato - 2 votes
Mali - 1 vote

*GRM7584 voted Scythia, but if Huns got in, Harrappa instead. These have been given half a point each - for now.

I also recieved a vote via pm which stated Babylonians, Morroco, Mongols, Palmyra, Picts, Brigantia, Goths, Harrappa, Minoa, Troy. This has been reflected in the votes above.

Here's a list of cities you could use to form your Akkadian city list. I have the Sumerians/Akkadians, the Assyrians, and the Amorites in my personal setup so I've grabbed chunks of each of their city lists. The cities within each chunk is in rough order of foundation. When known I've used the 'original' name of each city, with common later or archaeological names in brackets.

The first group are Sumerian/Akkadian cities existing prior to the foundation of Akkad itself.

Eridu
Uruk (Warka, Erech)
Ur
Shuruppak (Fara)
Nippur
Lagash
Girsu
Larsa
Umma
Isin
Adab
Kish
Sippar
Akshak
Eshnunna
Tutub (Khafaje)

Next are the Assyrian cities that existed prior to the foundation of Akkad:

Assur
Nineveh
Arbil (Arbela, Irbil)
Gasur (Nuzi)
Karana (Qattara, Rimah)
Ekallatum
Araphka
Shemshara (Shusharra)

And now the pre-Akkad Amorite cities:

Ebla
Ugarit
Yarmuti
Hamath
Mari
Habuba Kabira
Nagar (Nawar, Tell Brak)
Shehna (Apum)
Urkesh
Tuttul
Halab (Yamkhad, Aleppo)
Alalakh
Carchemish
Emar
Qatna
Harran
Terqa
Urshu
Hashshu
Tunip
Qadesh
Simurru
Qarqar

The folowing list begins with Sargon's capital city of Akkad and continues with other southern Mesopotamian cities founded later.

Akkad (Agade)
Kutha
Babylon
Dilbat
Marad
Borsippa
Kazallu
Der
Simurrum
Nerebtum (Ischali)
Shaduppum (Tell Harmal)
Dur Rimush
Mashkan-shapir
Dur Kurigalzu

And finally, this list contains Assyrian cities that postdate Akkad. This list may contain errors/omissions as I haven't finished researching this period yet:

Hamazi
Shubat-Enlil
Ashnakkum (Chagar Bazar)
Kar-Tukulti-Ninurta
Kalhu (Calah, Nimrud)
Dur Sharrukin (Khorsabad)
Dur Katlimmu
Arhuzina
Kilizu
Shibaniba
Halahhu
Apku
Kulishkhinash
Shadikanni
Qattuna
Sabi Abyad

I'm not sure how you'd want to approach this as many of the important cities of the Akkadian empire were around before Akkad iteself. But I hope this is some help. But then it's probably just me who cares about these details :)

Wow, thanks!!

Any chance you could put the cities into one city list that I could use?

Also, who do you suggest for the leader? Any great leaders (military and scientific ones?)

Any trait or UU suggestions?

@Sword_Of_Geddon - Mali's vote has been registed ;) .

Here you go. I decided to leave out the Amorite cities as they're probably too far removed from the cultural centre of the empire, and difficult to mix in to the list. I made Uruk the capital as although Eridu is older, Uruk was far more important.

Uruk (Warka, Erech)
Eridu
Ur
Shuruppak (Fara)
Nippur
Lagash
Girsu
Larsa
Umma
Isin
Adab
Kish
Sippar
Akshak
Eshnunna
Tutub (Khafaje)
Assur
Nineveh
Arbil (Arbela, Irbil)
Gasur (Nuzi)
Karana (Qattara, Rimah)
Ekallatum
Araphka
Shemshara (Shusharra)
Akkad (Agade)
Kutha
Babylon
Dilbat
Marad
Borsippa
Kazallu
Der
Simurrum
Nerebtum (Ischali)
Shaduppum (Tell Harmal)
Dur Rimush
Mashkan-shapir
Dur Kurigalzu
Hamazi
Shubat-Enlil
Ashnakkum (Chagar Bazar)
Kar-Tukulti-Ninurta
Kalhu (Calah, Nimrud)
Dur Sharrukin (Khorsabad)
Dur Katlimmu
Arhuzina
Kilizu
Shibaniba
Halahhu
Apku
Kulishkhinash
Shadikanni
Qattuna
Sabi Abyad

Is it too long? I could prune it if you like.

I decided to leave Akkad halfway down the list - yes it was the imperial capital (prior to this hegemony of the region was swapped around various city states) but the Akkadians as a people existed long before this.

As for leader, there is really no other option but Sargon, the first known emporer in history:

sargon.jpg

Traits are probably Religious and Scientific, though other options could be Militaristic, Industrious or Agricultural.

Great Leaders:

Gilgamesh
Lugalzagesi
Naram-Sin
Gudea
Ur-Nammu
Shulgi
Rim-Sin
Ashur-uballit
Yarim-Lim
Zimri-Lim
Hammurabi
Burnaburiash
Kurigalzu
Tiglath-Pileser
Tukulti-Ninurta
Ashurnasirpal
Shalmaneser
Sharrukin
Sennacherib
Esarhaddon
Ashurbanipal
Nebuchadnezzer
Nabonidus

UU Idea: Assyrian seige engine (I wish someone would make one of these)

Wow!! What a unique unique unit, if you know what I mean. Has any of the unit makers done one of these, or does anyone fancy doing it? Thanks for all the help with this, Xyth :) .

@Plotinus - Saba was head-to-head with Palmyra and is winning that vote as we speak.

...just found this promising mod-thread...

I remembered a nice mod, which may help you, the "Great Lost Civilizzations"-Mod by LBPB, you can find it here :

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=100287

there is also an Assyrian Heavy Siege Tower in this mod, just zipped it for the attachment...

PS: My Vote goes definitly to the hitties, they were truly a great civ, ruled the important area of minor asia and northern (modern) syria for quiet some hundret years from ca. 1500BC on, and invented and made the usage of IRON nearly perfect, also some rumors say, they also "invented" a real currancy at first....

Wenz, first of all, welcome to Civfanatics!

The Assyrian siege tower is definately a good find. However, it would be nice to see someone take on board a newer version; this one is good, but is a basic tower with an arrow attack. It would be nice to see one with a couple of Akkadians on top firing arrows and the battering ram attack (or whatever that is!) IMHO, it would also be a unit that someone might use for a fantasy mod. Once all the civs have been sorted out and I've an idea of UUs, I'll post a request thread with all the units I feel I need; hopefully some of them will get picked up. I'll definately include this as one of them ;) .

Your vote for the Hittites has been registered - they now join the Kievan Rus, Siam and Minoa in the mod. There's only three places left - Brigantia only needs one vote to get in; Gauls, Khazar and Troy all need two votes.

No Mali Empire in your mod.... :(

Not yet, they still could get in. However, there is some crossover with Ghana. I couldn't have Mansa Musa as leader either as he's too late for the end of the mod (approx 1200AD).

Hello R8FXT,

This is my first post on Civfanatics, although I'm watching and enjoying the forums for at least 2 years already. I really like your work, and I'm very curious to how your mod will look like. From what I have seen so far, I think I will really like it =)

As for your voting poll in here, I hope I can still vote for it. Here are my votes:

1. Babylonia ( so together with Assyria in the game)
2. Mongols ( not sure if you already decided to take them in, but I like mongols a lot)
3. Gaul
4. Etruscans
5. Yamato

And I wish you much succes on creating new stuff for your mod. You are doing great! =)

@Kikker - welcome to Civfanatics!! Your vote has been registered and has actually made a difference...Etrusca got a late run together placing them into the game, Gauls got that extra vote so that they get in ahead of the Harrappa and Mongols tie with Huns. I've decided to go with the Mongols as I would like to do a Ghengis Khan leaderhead - probably to look more like the Ghengis Khan we know and love from Civ 1. Below is the list of civilizations in the game along with the traits I'm suggesting. I did receive a couple of votes in pms, so not all votes are visible in this thread.

Whilst I'm sure there'll be more discussion about which civs made it and which didn't, I feel there's been plenty of chance for the line-up to change. I'm happy with this civ list; I would have included more if I wasn't limited to 31 civs!

In terms of the traits, I want to have all 28 combinations of two traits represented in the game. Some players don't care who the civ is, but like to play whomever is Scientific and Industrious, or another specific trait combination. That means that some civs might have one trait that could potentially be different, but have that trait as they fit that trait combination better than anyone else. (I hope that makes sense ;) !) The trait listed first is the one that will also lead to bonus advances on the tech tree.

Akkadians..........Sci, Agr
Arabs................Exp, Rel
Berbers.............Com, Ind
Brigantia............Agr, Exp
Carthage...........Ind, Sea
Egypt................Rel, Ind
Ethiopia.............Mil, Agr
Etrusca.............Sea, Exp
Franks...............Rel, Mil
Gauls.................Agr, Rel
Ghana...............Com, Rel
Greece...............Sci, Sea
Hittites...............Mil, Com
Iceni..................Ind, Sci
Illyria.................Sea, Agr

Persia.................Exp, Sci
Picts...................Agr, Mil
Qin.....................Exp, Ind
Rome..................Mil, Ind
Saba..................Com, Agr
Saxons...............Exp, Com
Siam...................Sci, Mil
Vikings................Sea, Mil

Is this ok? Don't forget that any recommendations would have to be straight swaps - I want to keep all 28 combinations of two traits in there; simply stating "Vikings must be Seafaring and Expansionist" isn't enough; but "Swap Vikings and Etruscans" is ok :) .

Great stuff - I like Saba being Agricultural and Commercial, as those are exactly the traits I would have given them.

I'm still thinking that it would be interesting to make Ethiopia Seafaring as they were a mighty maritime nation in their day. I wonder whether you could swap their traits with those of Carthage? Ethiopia could certainly be Industrious (all those remarkable fortresses and things from the Middle Ages). Similarly, Carthage could obviously be Militaristic, and I understand that they pioneered the irrigation of North Africa, making them potentially Agricultural as well. I don't know if you're up for changing the traits of "established" civs, but it might be interesting to give them a bit of a shake-up in this way!

Cheers Plotinus! I'd be "up" for changing Ethiopia and Carthage as you mentioned.

In terms of Saba, name of nation, traits and using my Zenobia leaderhead is about as far as I've got!! Any ideas of....well, anything else to do with Saba?

I dont know anything about Saba, I have never even heard of it (though perhaps your mod can change that, hehe :P)

I agree with Plotinus on his ideas for making Ethiopia seafaring and industrious. When swapped with Carthage, the Carthaginians become agricultural and militaristic then, though I would make them industrious and militaristic instead. You wont loose a combination then since the Picts are also agricultural and militaristic.

Personally I would swap Iceni (ind, sci) with Siam (sci, mil). Although I dont know too much about Siam, I dont really see them as a militant country. Correct me if you know more about it =)

The Romans I see as expansionistic, and maybe militarisitic, commercial or industrious as their second feature. Maybe swap the Romans (mil, ind) with the Saxons (exp, com)?

It makes me happy you made the Greeks scientific and seafaring, thats exactly the combination I use for my standard civ3 for Greece =)
