The CIV Gold Team is proud to announce the upcoming release of CIV Gold!

CIV Gold is a civilizations mod for Civ4 that combines some of the most popular user-created civilizations, while applying standards for graphics and content across the board. It can be used as a standalone mod to give users more options in their games, or it can be used by mod-makers to add a “plug-and-play” civ component to their projects.

With CIV Gold we are attempting to create the “definitive” civ add-on for users and mod-makers, alike. There are some great civ combo packs out now, but none that apply universal standards across the board. This pack is meant to be focused, complete, and comprehensive.

Each new civilization in CIVGold has:

- fully animated leaderhead(s)
- re-skinned unique units
- full graphics for buttons and unit flags
- complete pedia entries for civ, leaders and units
- representation of at least two people in the "Great People" lists
- unique "First Contact" diplomacy text based on actual quotes or cultural proverbs

Many thanks to the original authors who had included several of these components in their releases.

Civilizations included in CIV Gold:

Aborigines (exclusive)
Abyssinia
Albania
Austria
Babylon
Canada
Carthage
Celts
Iroquois
Korea
Maasai
Maya
Netherlands
Nguni (Zulu)
Poland
Portugal
Scotland
Sumer
Turks
Vikings

Scheduled Release Date: Tuesday, April 4 2006 (...or earlier if we can!)

Watch for it in the New Civilizations sub-forum, along with a detailed FAQ that will hopefully address whatever questions or concerns you may have.

The Civ Gold Team,
Sevo, Shqype and Wyz_sub10

That is an excellent group of Civs, well-balanced across the map, and across time for that matter. The only one I would say is definitely missing is the Byzantines, and I'd also like to see a Polynesian civ (one of the most fascinating empires in history). You also got rid of most of the dubious civs from the SevoMod, namely the Caribs and the Bretons.

Nicely done.

Arkaeyn, I'm glad you like the selection. I can assure you that future versions will include many more civs.

Regarding the Byzantines, don't you think they're represented enough by the Greeks and the Romans? I could be wrong, but the way I see it the Byzantine Empire was essentially the Greek part of the Roman Empire. To add the Byzantines in addition to the two former civs just seems redundant to me, especially since many of the city names would overlap.

I guess my only question is how would it work with the older Sevo mods? The Civ content in the Gold mod is better, but would we be able to use the other mods that were in the others, like the promotions and Wonders, etc

Nope, Polish Heavy Hussars. They wore "wings" as a means of defense and intimidation.

finally the dutch in a big mod :) hopefully sevo will integrate this package in his sevomod very fast :) thanks Sevo, Shqype and Wyz_sub10!!! thanks many times :))

Brillliant - I really like to see people working and pulling things together, especially when it comes to people helping others with their mods. And it sounds a very comprehensive full effort add-on to the core game.

Really looking forward to playing this. I'm sure there are many civvers out there a little sick of the same opponents but looking for good quality mods to add some extra flavour to the game.

Congratulations and thank you to the team.

EDIT: For those wondering about Sevo's mod - in its thread he's indicated that a new version incorporating Civ Gold should follow in a few weeks. Sevo you are a champion.

This sounds like the perfect addition to my CivMore mod! I was planning on adding more civilizations and more leaders, but I have some standards that I am trying to abide by (such as animated leaderheads), and I wasn't quite sure how I was going to possibly create all of the necessary artwork in any kind of reasonable fassion! Great work, and I eagerly anticipate it's release!

Hope I dont offend anyone but those winged units is... rather wierd. But you learn every day, havent a clue about those units exicted (with the winged costume that is). Still I wonder how common that configuration was, did every polish hussar have those? Did a wast majority of the hussars use them to valid the unit on civ to be represented with wings?

You'll find out a little more about the unit if you read the civilopedia entry for it once the mod gets released ;)

Soon my friends, soon!

one question:
is it possible (if it don't makes too much work, i don't know...) to give the Hussars a (hollow) lance instead of a sword?

Their primary weapon was a 4½ to 5½ metre long hollow lance, which was some 1.5 metres longer than the old knights lances as well as being much lighter due to their hollow construction. This allowed a much longer reach, especially useful against pike and yet avoided being too cumbersome.[...]

Certainly in terms of city names, the Byzantines aren't very distinct. However, the main defining traits for civilizations in Civ IV are:

1) Traits
2) UU

In both of those categories, I think the Byzantines deserve to be as different from the Greeks and Romans as any other European Civ.

HEY! I liked the Carib! With that crazy music I always felt like they were drinking margaritas and partying on a beach...you know...

Maybe in CivGold II, there will be Israel. I'm somewhat surprised they didn't make it this time:-x
