Announcing heihojin's 9th PBEM game!

Ok. These 5 days void was due to prettyvacant not receiving my turns... I'll send e-mails if I don't receive a "got it" e-mail in the future.
Our bad.

May this game run well now ! :)

EDIT : I thought the game was passed to other players, and I didn't realize that I hadn't received prettyvacant's "got it" e-mail, so it's mainly my fault. Sorry again.

no got it mail received.

Ack!

WildFire had told me that he would be unavailable this weekend. I generally send a notice of unavailability when a particular player advises that he will be unavailable, but I forgot in this instance.

Sorry about that.

Hello,

I will not be able to make any moves until this Sunday night, July 13th.

@ Ben E Gas : At the pace the game goes, you could go for a long holidays ! :D :o

Is this game dead ? I don't think so, but we need to speed things up, if we want to finish it before Civ4 comes up. I know I made a mistake, but it's almost a week since I resent my save... Just wondering, just wandering, just waiting.

Wouldn't it be a nice idea if everyone of us posted 1 post in this thread to say "I got it", "I played and sent the game", "I received next player's "got it" "... So we would have to edit this post each turn, and each player could know where the game is at any moment... We could all make this post one after the other during the 2nd turn, as we get and play the game, so that the thread shows these posts in the same order than the roster, given that no one would post other messages during that time. It may need to get to a brand new page, for easier access. What do you think ?

EDIT : This is post #47. We could do it before jumping to the next page. (I assume all of you display 20 posts per page)

No, the game is not dead. None of my games die. It has simply stalled twice in the first turn, which is not unheard of (it happened in my Game 8 as well).

Posting "I got it" replies to the thread simply clutters the forum, and is more cumbersome than sending a confirmation e-mail. Making turn completion procedures more cumbersome will not improve the speed of the game. The protocol I use has worked well for my eight other games, and will work well for this one too.

A great deal of the work involved in administering this game is keeping it moving at an appropriate pace for the players. Each game is unique and will develop its own pace according to the players in it, but there are reasonable standards for turn cycling. When I believe those standards have been exceeded, I send messages to players requesting information about the turn. From the responses I receive to these messages, I determine where the turn is. I send such messages in private; the fact that you haven't heard anything about the turn doesn't mean that nothing is being done about it.

So yes, I am taking care of it. I attempt to balance the needs of the individual players with the needs of the group as a whole. This is difficult to do when I don't yet know the natural "pace" of the game, so please be patient. If you would like an update on any given turn, though, feel free to ask me in private.

Heihojin,

I sent you a response email this morning (July 14th). You have sent another email asking the same question. As I said before:

I recieved the file on July 7th, I sent it to Octavian on July 7th. I also, Resent the file today, this morning, July 14th to Octavian and you. I have recieved no response email, I will send it again.

If it does not go through this time, I'll send the file to the group.

I resent the file for the third time, along with the answers to your questions, Heihojin. I sent it to Octavian and Heihojin. Please let me know if you receive the files. It is now, 2:25PM US EST July 14th.

thank you,
Ben E. Gas

I understand that the protocol I use is different from other games. I do my best to explain it as clearly as possible in the welcome e-mail, although some details are inevitably dropped.

This particular detail was dropped twice this turn: if you do not receive confirmation within 24 hours of sending the turn, resend the turn and carbon-copy me.

The reason for carbon-copying me is that I am the only one who can kick players from the game, and rest assured I am willing to do so (I have already issued one kick warning for this game). If I am not notified of someone dropping the ball, there is little I can do about it. There is no need to spam the group with e-mail asking "Who has the turn?", nor is there any need to send the game turn to the entire group.

So please do not send any turns to the group at large; send the turn directly to the next player. If you don't receive confirmation within 24 hours, you resend them the turn and you carbon-copy me.

I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood your original email. In your protocol welcome email, protocol #7 reads "If you haven't received your turn within 5 days, please send me an email advising me as such." I took this to mean, if you haven't recieved confirmation within 5 days. My mistake. I also emailed the group to let them know I wouldn't be around last weekend. That is why I never emailed you to let you know I hadn't received the turn after 5 days.

It wasn't me ? I suppose... My bad again for a 5-day delay during the very 1st turn. I've just sent the save (3950bc) to prettyvacant. Oh, now that I have founded my capital (you could have known it the round after my 1st turn anyway with F11), I confirm there is no accelerated production for me (even though I would have liked it for my sole pleasure :p ).

Let's speed up this game now. :goodjob:

I don't visit this forum often, and am thus saddened by missing the opportunity to engage in another of Heihojin's well run games.

If you decide to kick someone, I hope that you will consider letting me fill their spot. As you know from the other games we are jointly playing, I am a reliable, quick passing player, and would be happy to join this group for another fine adventure in the land of Heihojin.

 Well, I don't know how you say that in English, but : "Tous mes voeux !!" :D (wish you the best...)

I'm also leaving on August 3rd, but I still don't know when I'm back, probably within 2 weeks from then. I'll EDIT this post when I know more. Check it back before the end of the week. :scan:
