Anyone know how to get rid of the annoying banner that pops up occasionally that shows your leader title and the year? It really blocks you when you have a unit or city right under where the banner pops and you have to wait until it fades away. This might be fine if you are not at war at that moment, but otherwise a real pain. I have attached an example of a screen to this post.

The banner doesn't display for very long in my games. I think they shortened the length of time it is displayed in one of the early patches. Complaints about it were much more common before then.

When it appears, I know the AI turns have really been completed. I have started to move some of my units, or clicked on a notication or center pop-up or have "choose production" or give unit orders only to find my turn hasn't really begun yet.

It's only there for a few seconds, just wait for to go away. If it doesn't, then it's a bug.

Yeah, as stated, it only appears for a coupe of seconds, if you see it for longer you may have found a bug.

Maybe there's an xml value for it? Somebody should know.

There should be an option to disable those banners.Disclaimers at the start of the game and when you try to download a mod...they suck.So annoying.

These things take like a second or two out of your life at most. In a game that takes hours and hours, or even days, to finish, I think you'll live. If you're patient enough to play Civ, you're patient enough to click a disclaimer in half a second or wait a second for a banner that isn't even really obstructive to disappear.

While I don't mind them that much, I think that your logic is flawed. You admit that these banners may cause seconds of inconvenience, but then say that the game may last hours to days. This implies multiple turns, and therefore, multiple instances of annoyance. These seconds really add up in a game as long as civ.

I don't care how minor any annoyance is, with enough exposure to it someone will eventually rage. Did you ever hear stories of the 'chinese water torture' as a kid? Where someone is tied down and has water slowly dripped onto their forehead for hours on end. Eventually, each water droplet is supposed to feel like hammer hits.

No evidence that this form of torture ever existed mind you, but I think you get the idea.

I find the intro scene to be the most annoying.

Then disable it. I did it so long ago that I forget how I did it. Hopefully somebody with a better memory then I have can post the details.

I just did it last week:

Go to My Documents\My Games\Civ 5 and open the file UserSettings.ini
set "SkipIntroVideo = 0" to = 1.
