Hey folks!

First of all, I've been blown away by this expansion pack. Since i live in the netherlands i could only start playing last night but i already finished 1 and a half game.

Religion is pretty awesome, espionage has much potential and is already quite nice and the new city-state system and AI just blew my mind! All in all i'm pretty happy with this X-pack.

There's just one thing that i haven't heard anybody about but is incredibly annoying to me and that is the colour of the Ethiopian unit flags. It's basically the same as the barbarian flag

(Left is Ethiopia, right is barbarian BTW). Seeing them right next to eachother it is quite clear but individually it's pretty confusing.

I think it's just strange that they make such a simple error in such a fantastic X-Pack. It could be that i'm just a little bit colour blind but it has already confused me enough!

Yup, agree 100% - they're impossible to tell apart. On a related topic, anyone notice that the Dutch units have icons in different shades of orange (e.g. settlers lighter than warriors)? Hopefully both will be an easy fix for the first patch.

/singed I tried them noticed the color right off the bat, ran into a barb and restarted another civ. That stele looks pretty awesome, if i was motivated I would change it, do not like Austrias blaring Red also, used to them being white from EU3 expansions onward.

just to be sure, I'm not talking about the orange colored unit. I'm talking about the two units under that. The very dark green-red and the black-red units... In my opinion those are basically the same....

Yeah, I know. And I still think they're more than different enough, personally.

They don't seem similar at all to me. Ethiopia's red is a little pinkish, and the dark green is decidedly green. To be honest I thought you were going to complain that Ethiopia looks like Christmas.

I don't see a problem. I can believe that some people would have trouble, though. We don't all see color the same way.

I noticed the same thing. It's easy to tell from examining a single picture here but when you take a quick glance some where it can quite easily resemble one of your forces and you lead you make a stupid mistake. Especially when its not actually barbarian but like a pikeman or some other unit.

No doubt it also depends on individual monitor settings. On mine where the gamma is pretty high they both look black and red. I don't think there are any other civs too similar if they were to lighten the green just a tad.

Hi there, I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet so I made an account to drop the info.

Red-Green Color Blindness is very common in men ( it's an X-chromosome linked condition, up to 10% of males have it)

It might be possible you'd want to get a test for that, it's quite simple really.

More info

Cheers mate

I can easily tell them apart, but my dad absolutely cannot. He's colour blind.

It would be nice if Civ had a "colour blind" mode under the options. Plenty of other games have it. Personally, I tend to get The Huns and Japan confused, although my main problems are some of the colour combos we have. I mean, look at the Maya Colours. Ew.

Yeah, I don't like the Maya colors, although I do like their symbol alot. The Dutch and Austria are my favorite colors and symbols.

They don't seem similar to me.....

Nor to me - the shade of red is clearly very different, and the green is rich, not easily mistaken for black. I particularly like the Ethiopian colours - I'm a little more annoyed that the Maya are drab and their icons sometimes difficult to see against the terrain when faded out after moving, and I don't like the Carthaginian or Byzantine schemes.

I find the Korean colors more similar to barbarian colors than Ethiopia's are.

Yes, some colors give more pressure to the eyes than others, although it differ from person to person. Generally it's the combination of red-green (Ethiopia) and dark blue/purple-red (Korea) but there are some colors that also can be very annoying to look at.

I personally find Korea, Siam and Persia extremely irritating not Ethiopia though dark green is peaceful color :) and I don't confuse them with barbarians. Red and Yellow combinations are just too bright and shiny to look at over and over again for hours for me. It's probably just me, I've never seen someone complain about it. Maybe It is the two powerful/bright color combination that annoy people, I don't know.

All the pale/dull colors are my favorite. They are just bright enough to notice and pale enough to not to tire eyes so I'm ok with Mayans too. I know they are not exactly color but Black, White and Grey are always my favorite and any combination that has this colors in it seems to me very cool.

Well I gave it a whirl because I wanted to try out the UB of Ethiopia, and I am hooked on them even with the colors!! Every now and then I would see one of my units and think omg BARBS!! Or not notice a barb closing in, but the UB and the UA are to awesome to ignore, Ethiopia is defense game players dream.
