Annoying ethiopia colours

Yeah, I don't have any trouble telling them apart when I actually look at them, but at a quick glance I often mistake them for Barbs when they first appear. Doesn't really seem like a big deal though, it's kinda funny when I'm like "oh god that's a lot of barbs..wait...".

Hey folks!

First of all, I've been blown away by this expansion pack. Since i live in the netherlands i could only start playing last night but i already finished 1 and a half game.

Religion is pretty awesome, espionage has much potential and is already quite nice and the new city-state system and AI just blew my mind! All in all i'm pretty happy with this X-pack.

There's just one thing that i haven't heard anybody about but is incredibly annoying to me and that is the colour of the Ethiopian unit flags. It's basically the same as the barbarian flag

(Left is Ethiopia, right is barbarian BTW). Seeing them right next to eachother it is quite clear but individually it's pretty confusing.

I think it's just strange that they make such a simple error in such a fantastic X-Pack. It could be that i'm just a little bit colour blind but it has already confused me enough!

I whole heartly agree. I started as Ethiopia and found that when it came time to defend against the raging barbs half the time I would click the wrong guy when I was going to move. Maybe I'm a little colour blind myself but it was just a bit of a pain until all the camps were cleared. I wish I could change the barb colour when I want to play Ethiopia if I am playing raging barbs for the xp farming.

I find the Korean colors more similar to barbarian colors than Ethiopia's are.

My only source of annoyance with the Korean colours is that it makes it hard to add the Khmer as DLC without colour-shifting Korea. The red is dominant in the Korean flag anyway, so they should be blue on red rather than vice versa.

They look very different to me, pinkish red and dark green does not equal blood red and black. I've played several games with Ethiopia so far and it never was a problem. Perhaps it has to do with monitor settings and such? Gamma, brightness, contrast and color settings could all change things drastically. When I first read your post I thought it might be a color-blindness issue but now I'm not sure...

If I had a mustketman for every time I've mistaken an Ethiopian caravel for a barbarian, I'd rule the world.

/Even when I'm playing as Ethiopia.
//I'm slightly colorblind, so there's that.

My monitor struggles with blacks and near-blacks, to the point where the dark green is very hard to see at all. The difference in brightness of the reds is not enough to easily tell them apart, and I've mistaken the two frequently. The green could definitely do with some brightening up.

I've heard that red-green colorblindness tends to not be total: in other words, only certain shades fall into the part of the light spectrum that a colorblind eye cannot differentiate.

In short, although it's not a very good fix at all, you could possibly try to turn brightness up or down on the monitor itself, which might bring the color shading back into the area of the spectrum where a colorblind eye can tell it apart from another shade.

That said, there are going to be a very small number who do have near-total red-green colorblindness (which would mean most of the red spectrum and most of the green spectrum appear identical to each other).

Although I can tell them apart and the Ethiopa colours do suit, they are that bit too close to barbs.

Tired eyes probably make it worst, more so than people struggling with colour blindness etc.

Colors are matter of taste and ability to recognize them.
Me, for example, like Ethiopia palette. I find Danes and English banners pretty hard to distinguish (Danes are just more brownish ones)
