How about making Civ4 so that military units have specific roles in mind. An example would be an ASW helo (as I'm making one for Civ3 right now). An ASW helo would have a high attack against subs, a lower attack against surface ships, but no Anti-Air (yes, I know anti-air is already a flag in Civ3) and no land bombardment capabilities. There needs to be something like Steph is working on, each weapon platform has specific weapons to be used against specific unit types. As it stands, my ASW helo for Civ3 will have bombard to simulate dropping torpedoes on a sub,(not an attacka, because if it used AttackA, the sub would be able to fight back, and possibly damage the helo, which isn't realistic) but the downside is, I can also use it to bombard land targets with the current Civ3 combat system and editor, which isn't realistic either, torpedoes don't operate on land.

Another example would be using HE or AP warheads. For the less military informed, AP is Armor Piercing and HE is High Explosive. HE wouldn't do alot of damage versus a unit with armor, but an AP would.

What I'm pretty much asking for is flags or values to assign to units for combat that would make them effective against one type of unit, but worthless against another type.

Actually, I'd love to see a patch for Civ3 Editor to do this, but last I heard, hell hasn't frozen over yet.

I like this idea. And it is not as complex as some other ideas are. I'd like to see more speciaslistaion in civ4.

One problem with this is that by the time you come up with all different levels of technology and to attack numerous different units, then you will have thousands of units.

This is not say I'm opposed to unit specialization. I would be in favor of a system there are bonus against different classes of units.

I am curious to what Civ4 holds in store for us. I remember reading that in Civ4, you won't be seeing a spearman defeating a tank...so, I'm hoping something similar to what I'm proposing/requesting is already planned.
