Remind me of the way the game is notated and we can play a game where I start my turn as black after your turn orients me in setting up the board.

Moves are listed by the target square. Pieces are designated like this:
Knight = N
Bishop = B
Rook = R
Queen = Q
King = K
Pawns don't have a letter.

So, if it's white's move, the move e4 (no letter so it's pawn) means that a pawn is moving to e4. Nf3 would mean the Knight is moving to f3. x means capturing a piece like Bxd6. In some cases moves can be made by more than one piece so you have to clarify.

If say a rook is on a1 and one is on h1 you can't write Re1 because your opponent won't know which one you mean to move. So you would write Rhe1 so your opponent knows it's the one starting on the h file that's moving to e1.

That's pretty much it. I'll play you unless you have an objection.

Yes Skullbones I remember now. Last question: what space is my queen and your queen on?

:( You can't see the picture I posted? Ok, white queen is on d1 on a white square. Black queen is on d8 on a black square.

Thank you skullbones!

The queen of white,lives on white,with white to her right.-my Grandfather :D

This means the queen always goes on the square of her color with a white square on outside right file.The white outside square is so you don't set up the board sideways.:o

That's pretty good. I've never heard that before.

Er, well, it's not uncommon to write "if.. then's" in correspondence chess from what I've been told. I just thought it would save some time since it was the only move you had, sorry.
