learn how to use firetuner, i use it for testing things but most people use it for cheating.
it seems like you either build things you don't need instead of what you do need or have a faulty awareness on maps. In previous editions of Civ you could almost build what you wanted while forcing what you needed.
In this edition you build what you need and ignore the rest. the only buildings i make (ever) are circuses, shrines, barracks and libraries/universities.
The rest of my production/focus is all sent to gold for unit purchases, city state purchases etc. all of my resources are traded to the AI for gold. I even settle on TOP of luxuries so i don't have to wait for plantations. I reach the ren with about 14 buildings in my whole empire, did i mention im a peacemongering builder?
I should also mention when i want to have some good fun i load up mods. Community Call to Power, is a good one. If you want to keep the game normal without changing too much, Echoes of Ages and Monarchy Plus+ are good works. You might like "IGE" InGame Editor which can be used as a cheat tool map editor.
I have used it to build a few maps and edit a few maps into good works. However, i really need a .bmp to civ5map creator. If so, i will find a copyright/trademark, whatever i need to do in order to "own it legally" and make my world map for you. But i haven't released my D&D campaign in any capacity because the EULA says anything we make with the tools is their property. That means i would be "giving" them my entire campaign for free, then they could make a lot of money on it by watering it down into some crap kid game.
Woah, no mean to rant - sorry. Just saying you don't need to cheat. Just consider your strategy and look through the "Let's Plays!" which worked for me.
