Any Civfanatics play Operation Reality?

Just curious, as I'm trying to find some buddies to play with. I've checked out the http://operationreality.org site and done loads of research but I'm holding off signing up right away as I'm trying to find some like minded buddies to sign up with or simply get some more information from those who have experienced this sort of military simulation gameplay.

Basically I'm just wondering if any other Civfanatics have any experience or so called "insider information" on what I can expect from Operation Reality? Also if you play the game, do you have any recommendations on what computer hardware you use? I've currently got a rather old PC dating a back about 4 years now (it can barely handle Civ IV!) but I'm looking to upgrade. Any recommendations or advice would be welcome!

Its a community that strives for a realistic military sim feel using the game/expansion ArmA 2 Arrowhead (Combined Operations).

Yeah I believe what PrinceScamp said is correct, they seem to mainly use ArmA 2 / Arrowhead although not exclusively I don't think.

Maybe someone should suggest to them they use the Civ platform to simulate the diplomatic / geopolitical aspects of their campaigns/operations etc! Wonder how that would go down with them!

PS - PrinceScamp do you have any experience either playing there or as a part of the community?

No, I only looked at their website. Also Civ games are pretty poor simulators for diplomacy or politics.

Probably the same groups of people.

Was a blast to play with several hundred at once with actual military discipline and C&C, but total lagfest at times.

@GoodGame - I did a little research and they're definitely not the same group of people.

I've heard about the myIS "tournaments" before but they're a totally different ball game in terms of play style etc. They have that one size fits all approach as they create a "tournament" for every game out there in hopes of simply attracting the maximum amount of traffic to their sites/servers in order to make money (I remember them when they started out with BF2 and then just copied that format for every game out there in the goal of renting game servers out etc). which is fine for the average fragger/gamer but I'm really not such!

I'm really interested into get the full milsim experience and not some FPS gaming "tournament". Hence I'm asking about any experiences people have had with Operation Reality.

Anyways I've decided I'm just going to sign up there as a basic member initially and then look into placing my application in for their Private Milsim Detachment.

I'll report back with my findings!

myIS was pretty milsim, at least when I played. We had to participate in trainings to get leadership promotions. Level of play might have degraded though.

Operation Reality if apart of the same group who did Project Reality a BF2 mod which is an amazing mod.
