I checked and Hotwire plastered all over the place about 'rentals for as little as $13.95' when I didn't fill out the information correctly and got the error page. When I got the right information put in I got a page that showed $34.99 as the cheapest in my area ($39.28 after taxes and fees) from Enterprise (and the exact same price as going through Enterprise directly) for compact cars (Ford Focus was $3 more). Hotwire showed Hertz was 50.49 (62.29 total) for a Ford Focus, which was $1 less than going through Hertz directly.
Hotwire will show you which car rental company you are getting your car from, and I selected 'La Crosse Airport', but the Enterprise doesn't have one at the airport (but one 5 miles away). Hotwire doesn't tell me that Enterprise isn't at the airport, but going to the Enterprise site directly, La Crosse Airport isn't an option.
If renting cars from Hotwire is anything like flight tickets from cheaptickets, the problem is when you go to reserve it, and only then (possibly after you've put in all your information) they inform you that it isn't available, and don't update the site to tell you this so there would still be dozens of tickets listed for a flight that are already booked (at least Orbitz would update the listings once somebody tries to get a flight that is already booked).
