Anyone else thinking about Sweden?

It seems to me that, at least with the release version of BNW, they have a lot of meta-advantaged.

Seeing as aggression is at an all time low, it seems that a lot of civs would rather be your friend than enemy. I've had a few games now where entire continents stay peaceful and friendly. DoF are in the bargain bin.
There are also three very cheap great people you can give away, in the form of Great Artists, Great Writers and Great Musicians, that don't require too much in terms of investments if you want to go the city state route.
Finally, a warmongering Sweden isn't impacted by the lack of early gold, since their unique units come in the middle eras, once trade routes and other sources of gold income have already been set up.

I haven't had time to test this myself, and honestly I'm still figuring out the first few turns in BNW, but I'd be interested to hear what the rest of you think.

(inb4 learning this has already been mentioned in some other thread)

I played a game with Sweden on highlands with 15 civs. Once I was host i noticed that everyone wanted a worlds fair i made 8 friends that turn. The next turn i made 5 more friends and got 130% it was amazing.

Sweden has been buffed by more friendships and more readily available GP but nerfed by more readily available influence. That 90 influence for a single GP isn't that awesome when a level 2 Freedom tenet gives 25 for any military unit and a level 3 Freedom tenet +4 influence per turn for trading with a City-State.

I've thought of this, too, to be honest.

Here are a handful of ideas with Sweden, regarding BNW:

1) Yes, indeed, the game does seem a little more peaceful now, so the bonus for DoF in the Swedish UA is now much more useful.

2) Great Generals, Great Admirals, Great Artists, Great Musicians, and Great Writers make for 5 Great People types to give away without too much worrying. This assumes you aren't going for a cultural victory and that you have at least one extra Great General on hand at any given time. Sweden is very much a Diplomatic Victory civ, now, as the best Great People to give away are those that produce Great Works (and the GG and GAdm).

3) The Great-Works Great People do seem to spawn more often, as mentioned. Further, a larger number of Wonders now provide Great People in addition to their other benefits: Globe Theater, as well as other new BNW Wonders, throw a Great Artist/Musician/Writer in with the added culture and Great Works slots.

4) Aesthetics AND Freedom both (IIRC now) have ways of boosting Great Person generation. Before, only Freedom boosted this, but now there's Aesthetics to boost the Great Artist/Musician/Writer generation and provide even more fodder for giving away to city states. Add this to Sweden's UA, and Tower of Pisa, and you will crank out Great People to give away.

5) Trade-routes add more direct and indirect ways to increase influence with CSes that you can't give Great People to. Now, sometimes a CS will ask as a quest for a trade-route from you. And indirectly, if a CS wants your religion, a trade-route to them from a city that has your religion in it will add pressure and speed up converting them.

So, yes, Sweden now has a lot more for players to consider.

edit: VainoValkea makes a good point that, until you have an ideology, other civs may push back a bit against you taking CSes. As Sweden, pushing for an ideology quickly helps a lot, as then you, too, can utilize those tenets.

Yes i'm thinking about Sweeden too

Now that we have to run artists/musicians and writers the Sweeden team can get more love.

they where amazing in gnk and just as good in bnw. they might suffer a little bit because early warmongering to get great generals has taken a hit, but dof come alot sooner and honour lets u faith purchase them ( great generals)now as well.

I think the smaller amount of GG's is more than made up by the trio of art GPs.

It's definitely a different playstyle from how people used to play them with the GGs. I kinda want to go a one city game with them though. After all you only need one city for the guilds, and you can get the national epic and stuff up faster than normal.

Sweden is one of my favorite Civs now. My last Sweden game got me friends with everyone but public enemy no. 1, Nebuchadnezzar, fetching me a 90% boost. It would have been more, if the Zulu hadn't destroyed Austria.
