Great People and Civ VII

I disagree only because Tjaty is the Egyptian word for vizier.
I know, but if he were an Egypt-only unit, he would probably be called a Vizier, they way if a Chariot Archer unit was unique to Egypt it would be called that, but if it were a generic unit the Egyptian unique Chariot Archer would be called a Maryannu

I suspect Ursa Ryan misunderstood the Tjaty. If all great people are unique, the Tjaty is not unique.

Arguably seems similar to the Gran Columbia setup now, where they get their unique general. I'm not sure I love losing the general pool of great people, I hope there's still some sort of over-arching system in place to fight for that pool somehow.

With the House of Wisdom reveal, we know that there's a Great Works system still present from the Exploration Age onward (in addition to the "Codex" system from the Antiquity Age). But, how is that going to work with Great People being civilization-specific? Will we still have global Writers/Artists/Musicians?

Or is the Great Works system going to be massively simplified, with no more actual historic writing/art/music and just generic icons and bonuses, basically continuing the "Codex" system in the later ages?

"You completed the second tier of Humanism. You unlocked a Great Work on Humanism which you can place in..."

I hope that's not what the Great Works system devolved into. The cultural great people and works are one of my favorite systems of Civ 5 & 6 and it would be a shame to have it be reduced to something so generic.

I'm curious about this too. Maybe there are generic civil units like artists or sculptors who create great works in buildings with slots for them. I mean, perhaps there won’t be a Leonardo da Vinci creating the Mona Lisa, but a generic artist could produce the painting randomly. We don’t know much about this yet; it’s purely speculation.

I could see Great Works being patronized from Independent Peoples or generated from Narrative Events or Civic masteries, but the conversion of production into culture via Artist units makes gameplay sense to me.

As far as I'm aware Codexes aren't created by Great People, so if there are similar great-works-type items in later Ages, I don't see any reason to assume that they must be created by Great People.
Usually, Codexes are made by completing the second tier of a technology, but Greece and Han can also get a few from their Great People. Sappho, Ban Zhao, and Laozi all create unique Codexes that grant culture or happiness instead of science.
