Here's a screenshot from my current game(Large, Pangaea, Sid):

I entered the industrial age in 250AD, 14 turns after the BC years. The Celts made it 3 turns before me.
Has anybody gotten there BC, or have the AI make it BC? (Non-Accelerated Production obviously.)

Notice the textbook slingshot :D .
The Celts were rich enough to buy Steam at monopoly from the Babylonians, now the Babs get to taste their own Medicine.

You do realize that Babylon is just going to sneak attack you to get out of paying nearly 1000gpt, don't you?

No, I have never reached the Industrial Ages in BC.

I don't think so, I have a Military Alliance and a lux deal with them.

It's very easy to climb techs fast in Sid, considering that AI researches 5 (?) times faster than you.

If you are able to stay in the loop you climb techs fast. But fast enough for a BC industrial age was the question?

I think they research 2.5 times as fast as you on Sid.

Try a huge map instead, I've always noticed that the more tech trading, the faster. Only problem is the enormous lag from the army sizes. If you're only looking to see if it's possible, I'm sure you wouldn't feel TOO bad about retiring.

Also, how do you "stay in the tech loop?" I've been having trouble with that on higher levels without good starting positions.

um, who is ur cultural adviser?

It is from a graphics mod in the downloads section.

For advice on Sid games try looking at the Sid games in the succession games forum. They can be quite detailed.

This particular game has been a huge trading exercise. Also it played like a Continents map, the AIs were really bad at making contacts.

The important thing is to get contact with all the other Civs ASAP. A little luck is required in meeting the other civs before they trade too much with each other. Your starting techs need to be leveraged into the other first tier techs. It helps if you start off with something good to trade(masonry, alphabet, the wheel).

First I did a 50 turn research on writing. When I got it only one opponent did not but no matter. I mortgaged everything (made tax collectors and sold my last resource) to buy Code of Laws. Traded it around an ended with more gold than I started with as well as the middle techs. Then I went 100% science on literature. Got it at the same time as someone else. Was nonetheless able to trade it around for the remaining required techs. The bonus tech (engineering) I was able to leverage into the Government techs as well as Feudalism and a huge profit(200 or so gpt).

The middle ages was characterized by me trading one end of the map against the other. I ran 0% science and had a substantial bankroll for leverage. I also gave away techs to the laggards so I could trade with them later. After printing press things got harder, but they discovered that one quite late. I had to resort to a five fingered discount on Physics because the trading window there was just too tempting, luckily I succeeded. Later I just bought/traded the remaining required techs.

I had a good start and a decent amount of luck which I still need. Otherwise it is often "New Game".

Seems very likely that H´rabi will (irrespective of the MA and lux deal). I am
stunned by the amount of gold the Babs are able to generate so "early" in the game!

That's what I thought! It is easier to develop when you have more rivals.
As I mentioned in my thread "Amount of rivals".

DaweMcW had Rails by 10AD. Check HOF threads. In 370AD he entered the modern age.

Thanks K, that game was impressive. I had not expected a chieftain game to beat a sid game in research speed before the endgame.

I didn't think the compo could afford to pay 900 gold per turn for things.

Did he accept the offer?

p.s. I don't really understand what the original poster is trying to ask or say here.
can someone fill me in. I'm a little dim. :)

Yes. And for you doubters, he continued paying for 20 turns. Then I attacked him.

I was wondering if anyone had made it to the industrial age before the date 10AD.
