So I've been playing CivIV and V for a while, and after getted  from V I dug out my old copy of CivIII:Gold. Just wondering if this game has a reasonable population after all these years?

Just judging by the forums, I'd say there is still a significant population playing, and many are dedicated and very skilled. Check out the Multiplayer and SG forums for all the action.

You might want to get conquests if you want to play with most people here, and it is dirt cheap these days.

CivIII Gold was my first copy of CivIII. :D

If you can get Conquests or Civ III Complete (all three versions, fully patched, in one installation, default game is Conquests) try to do so. Corruption is signficantly different from Play the World, more units and Wonders, stronger armies and improved/added specialist citizens.

It is well worth the cost.

I choose Option 4. "Yes, I still play Civ3, but I also play Civ4. Mostly I play Civ3 because I can alt+tab back and forth without having to wait for the game to catch up, as civ4 does. Hopefully, by getting a new laptop soon, I will be able to alt+tab with both games."

Like Verarde, I play both, Rhye's mods especially. I have a preference for CivIV on smaller maps. Playing a huge map on IV is a terrible pain because of late-game slowness, so if I want a huge map game it's back to CivIII. CivIII runs easier and faster on my computer. I switch on and off between the two games - they are quite dissimilar.

Each game has good points and bad points. Diplomacy matters more in IV but the AI is more brutally opportunistic in III. I didn't like what I saw and heard about CivV so I haven't tried it and Steam is a deal-breaker.

I've played all five (I don't count CivRev or that FB game) at some point. Civ3 is my go-to Civ game though. Civ4 confused me with all of the changes, and Civ5 was too easy. I've been playing Civ3 for 5 years or so now, and I still find it challenging on the medium levels.

I love civ 3 so much that, other than playing a little Civ4Col, I haven't bothered to play anything else, even though I own Civ4 complete & Civ5. RE: Civ5, I went as far as to load the game. Never even fired it up. I dislike the new steam format. Give me my disk and leave me alone.

:goodjob:

Civ3 is the only Civ I play, really. I have CIV and its expansions, but I've never really gotten "into" them.

Ditto. I have Civ 4, but due to how complex and big the mods are getting, I can't stand to play one if I get a MAF every hour or so. Totally ruins immersion if I have to constantly save, and worry if the game is gonna crash, making me load up the mod (lengthy), and then reload the save all the time. If they can somehow hack the .exe to circumvent these errors, I would play Civ 4 a little more often.

Still playing Civ3, only just started with 4. Might migrate from one to the other after some practice and getting used to the new systems.

When Sandris built his unit packs, CivArmy his mod, and i my new series of gfx, it triggered a Golden age for the Creative trait of CivIII ;)

Creative trait?

Or am I just missing the joke? (I don't mind not getting the joke. I just want to be sure that is a joke! :crazyeye:)

Traits, y'know, like Commercial, Expansionist, etc.?

I own Civ IV and Civ V but I have never gotten around to playing them. Civ III is just too good. Plus I like the fine people who populate the Civ III forums.

I haven't played it seriously in the longest time, but I love it and I reckon that with some improvements (like the culture flips in conquered cities, the corruption system or the research not overflowing), this game would be awesome, even considering the fact that it is now so old.

Even without these improvements, I believe that C3C v1.22 (and even Civ3 1.00 for that matter) is still far better than Civ5 will ever be!

Interesting point. I do find the Civ3 forums to be the most pleasant of any of the forums. Of course, I rarely visit some of the others.
