Anyone up for a new Chieftain SG? I noticed there was one going on already, but I only recently have started playing and missed out.

These things look like fun from reading them and would like to get in on one.

nice..

hopefully we can get a couple more beginners, maybe even a resident guru to join us :D

Just wondering, are you looking for a regular succession game with a "resident guru" as one of the players, or are you thinking of a Training Day Game, where the guru doesn't play, but critiques your moves?

I'm in!

I’ve played lots and lots of Civ I in my days, but that’s ages ago when I was just a kid. I hope that doesn't disqualifies me in any way… :)

Padma:

A training day game would definitely be more beneficial to us beginners, but I know that takes a lot of time for the "guru".

Are you volunteering? :D

Otherwise, having a guru as one of the players would be nice too. Can balance out all the mistakes we make

Hey Guys! I'll join your SG if you want me but I might not be able to play right away cause I have school work to do, but count me in, I was looking for a Chieftain SG for awhile

Hmm...that's 5 so far + the guru ;)

Have been posting during some quick breaks during work...so if this thing does get started today I won't be able to play at all until this evening, eastern time.

Just Curious but what civ and attributes will we use cause I don't like some of them.

Any civ is fine with me...seeing as I'm just learning I'm not real good with any civ yet.

Did you have any particular one(s) in mind?

All the more reason to use one people don't like. :D

If you learn to deal with attributes that are not to your liking, then you don't depend on a particular "crutch" when you play. If you can only win as, say, the Babylonians, that indicates your game play and understanding needs more work.

If we want something really easy we could pick an industrious civ (or so I've read). But I would kind of like to try out a commercial civ as commerce is new to me. Doing all those fancy deals sounds fun! Another aspect is unique unit: should we choose one that is actually useful or something else, like that English one.

Anyhow, I can settle for any civ.

Yeah, I guess the best way to learn is to use a civilization that you aren't comfortable with. I think we could try any civ, but since this IS chieftain, we should probably stay away from expansionists cause its almost a wasted attribute....unless we play a Huge map. If you want to know my favorites, they are Persia and India, so maybe don't pick those, unless you want to.

Actually, people who have play the game a lot and have studied the effects of the various attributes are finding that Expansionist is one of the best attributes, if you are playing on pangea or at least a large continent. It is only almost useless if you are on archipelego or a small continent with other expansionist civs nearby. ;)

And yeah, if I were running this game, I would probably pick a civ like England, where you would have to think your way to victory. Can't make it too easy. :D

I don't mean to pry, but if Padma is going to help direct the game, perhaps you might be inclined to play on Warlord instead? The AI is absolutely crippled on Chieftan and can't put up any kind of a fight; perhaps you might get more out of the game by playing it on the next difficulty level (?)

But I don't want to butt in where I don't belong; by all means conduct your game in whatever way will be most enjoyable for your team. :goodjob:

So, we have a few things to decide on:
1. Chieftain or warlord?
- I vote for warlord. We’ll learn more that way!
2. Which civ?
- I vote for the greeks (commercial and scientific)
3. Map size?
- I vote for small, for faster gameplay.
4. Any other customising such as altered rules, non-radom map attributes and non-random foes.
- I say: no civ restart, no accelerated production and no linked starting locations! Map: small (see 3), continents (70% landmass), random weather and age and random barbarians.
5. How will do the playing: everybody (newbies and pros) or newbies only (pros only comment on gameplay)?
- I don’t have an opinion this matter.
6. How many turns each?
- The starter takes 20 turns then everyone takes 10 turns after that.

Anything else?
