Aqueducts worth it?

What "aqueduct"?

There must be different versions of Civ5, or a setting i can't get to -- since my
"version" of Civ5 has no aqueduct building or any reference to it in my ingame help/online Civipedia...

Is aquaduct unique to the stream version (? such a thing?)

this is just one of several discrepancies i'm finding in the excellent strategy
discussions i'm finding on this board (versus the DVD version of civ5 i'm playing).

thanx in advance,

With 'DVD version' you mean 'pirated version'? ;)
As there is only the Steam version :)

And if you're not playing a pirated game, then just update your game (just put Steam in online-mode and it will automatically update your game).
The aquaducts came a few patches ago, I think even in february?
You've missed out on a lot of patches, national and natural wonders, buildings, and a resource, stone.

ahhh.....

It's on my son's "old" PC, since we upgraded him to a much faster machine a while back.
So I was making some false assumptions of connecting
"Steam" with the interactive/online/multiplayer install of the game,
and
"DVD version" indicated the stand-alone/single user install of civ5
(I realize that DVD is NOT an accurate technical association for a single player model,
but the one that i remember from the (very) old days of Civ1, 2 when the game was single user
and distributed on dvd....)

Ignorant word choice, sorry.

anyway.... I'll bet it's just not updated.
Will do that next/now so i can better enjoy (follow) these discussions...

Thanx again,

All of life's resource management is like that. Your money, your time, etc. In my experience, opportunity cost (what you could have had with time/money/other resources) seems to be a tough concept for people to wrap their minds around in this country. I suspect that's partially cultural; the corporations that employ Madison Avenue to hawk products maximize their profits by convincing people to make unexamined purchases. Successful marketing and advertising are basically the art of exploiting perceptual blind spots, and there's a lot more money being thrown at creating and sensitizing those blind spots than there is money being thrown at educating people on how to resist such messages and efficiently put their time and money to work for them.

well its concept from 1. term economics studies.
Well to say truth - every1 in here doent calc his opportunity costs of playing civ or posting in forums very well.

Could use the time to please woman, go out into nature, earn money, read good books ..........

still Martin Alvito seems to be seems to be a smart guy and I d like to see you/him in multiplayer aswell.
As well - singleplayer and forums are the theory - mp is practise.
And Theory without practise is boring - isnt it?

...Forgive me, Master, for i have failed....

I come to this endeavor (civ5) after several years away from the scene.
civ2/3 being the last time i'd invested significant time/interest in the challenge.

My game/sytem is updated now (& have the aforementioned features/utility), so as
soon as i better learn the nuances of 5 (vs 3), i'll be stepping up and learning (failing)
in the public arena of mpp.

thanx again master Po.

MP = gear up for war. How is it, again, that MP games don't descend into total war when someone is close to winning a Culture or Science victory? Is there a code of honor that says "only 1 or 2 players may DoW on a player that is close to winning a peaceful victory"? If not, then all MP games will eventually boil down to whoever can aggressively invade the last Original Capital and defend theirs.

This is the paradox that keeps me in SP. I have the ability to win a game peacefully. Sure an AI or 2 may DoW (though I've had plenty of games where this didn't happen) once I finish Apollo Program or start building the Utopia Project. But very rarely does the whole map come down simultaneously on me.

Yeah that's right. MP is all about war by default. But nothing can stop you to set special games like the first to Space or something on a island map with a no war rule.

And poking yourself with big rusty needles every few seconds to stay awake.
I remember one particular duel game back in Civ4 days with always peace on. I've been traumatized for the rest of my life. And lost. By culture. :deadhorse:

How about you & a buddy in a tight relationship to build up your very own (Manifest Destiny-friendly) continent, with interlocking autobahns and jazz?:)
