Arda Mod

Yo y'all...

What can I say? I decided to help good ol' NAU out.
I will contribute with concept and photoshop art to this Mod. I believe that this mod will be good and I'm very into Tolkien-lore, so I joined the crew.

Hope you like my work.

Hey Honom wats up! Its Thingol. Welcome to the forums. And ignore Gleeko hanging around in the Off topic forum.

Mmmm...

Thanks for the welcomes.
I'll get started on that primitive dude today. Stay tuned.

PS. Should I post my drawings here or just send them to you trough MSN? We really need our own staff forum.

Hmmmmm, interesting idea, but I have a feeling its impossible that the landmass can change when an age ends. One prob I see with it is that the First Age will end once u get to the end of the tech tree, and others will end it earlier/later than others. Also it doesn't seem very fair for the factions that start out in the West and all their cities sink while civs that start in Middle Earth won't lose anything, don't you agree?

First problem could be solved by making it a gradual thing. The more civs that are no longer in the First Age the faster it happends.

Can't even try to solve the second since I know neither the story nor the mod :p

Well, here is my symbol that I think the Noldor could use in the first age. Made from scratch by me:

Off course it will have less effects in game, this is just a rendered version.

Honom, I'm just wondering... is that based on the Noldorin heraldic devices? It looks great and it reminds me of something (perhaps Fingolfin's?), but I can't quite place it.

... Sorry to gatecrash your thread. I don't have any suggestions (well, I do have some quibbles regarding the Ages, but I could just be confused), but I'm a big Civ and Tolkien fan (esp. the conlangs), and I can't wait to see how this mod turns out, considering the hard work all of you seem to be putting into it. :) I'll be eagerly watching the progress of this mod as it comes along.

Well, I've read somewhere that Fingolfin's symbol was a star, so I made some kind of a star. Other than that this is a symbol I usually use when I draw elves. So I thought it would be nice if I could get it into a mod. Glad you like though. I have to tone down all the effects a lot. I doubt even the Noldor could make their banners glow  But I will keep the color scheme with Blue/Black/Orange and possibly white.

Also, I've finished the "primitive dude"... But he became really good, so I'm thinking we might could use it for a hero instead. Which heroes are you thinking of adding NAU? I suggest Fëanor or Fingolfin for the 1st age. I don't quite like that you made it just Gondolin. I would rather see "Noldorian realms" or something like it.

Also, I figured the my suggestion for the tech stuff for the Noldor.

Gondolin? > Lindon > Imladris
(Noldor realms?)

If it's just one hero á age it could be:

Turgon? > Gil-Galad > Elrond
(Fëanor, Fingolfin?)

Gondolin is supposed to represent the Noldorian realms in the First Age, its just another name for it :p

I'll consider the Gondolin > Lindon > Imladris idea. As for the leaders, they don't correspond to age. I suggest you play a game of Civ4 Honom so you'll see what I mean

Show me the "primitive dude" and I'll see whether hes worthy of unit status or not (heroes aren't really a part of Civ4 Honom) :crazyeye:

Well, I'll be happy to tell you that I don't have Civ4, I thought I have, but it was Sim City 4:D

So I haven't, and probably never will, play Civ4.

Meh, maybe I'll download it, but not today.

Here is the dude. Remember that I never colour my art (except in PhotoShop) so don't even ask me to colour it.

Yeah, he does look more like a heroic figure, as you told me in MSN, then a "Primitive Elf"

Still, the image looks great! Actually if we found a modeller who could slightly tone down on this unit's heroic-like look that he has about him, then it could possibley be used as Gondolin's "Starting-out Warrior" before they gain the Noldor Soldier.

If you wouldn't mind Honom, could you do a sketch of a 1st Age Noldor Archer perhaps next? If you wanna do a sketch of something not quite as similar as something you've already done for this mod, you could do a concept sketch of the Elven Worker (would be used for both the Gondolin and Cuivienen civilizations, and will last from the First-Third Age).

Not yet, but we have a treat planned soon that I should release by the weekend, if all goes well ;)

Not sure if its in the best shape for a mini-release...

Well, that is, unless you've gotten more done then I'm aware of :p

Yeah, that was me ;)

Well, some kind of an update:
Religions
Valar Worship
Melkor Worship
Sauron Worship
Animalism (worship of animals)
Secularism (some civs don't really worship anything)

Well, it is not a great thing but we are getting close to finish the "thinking" part, all that remains are the Civics i believe :crazyeye: :goodjob:
They have never worshipped Sauron they always worshipped Melkor or Morgoth(Same person).

The "if all goes well" statement was an indication of a release possible IF I had complete information. In reality, all didn't go well, so there is still no release ;)

Well, this looks very interesting. I am a quite a fan of the whole Tolkien universe (Read the Silmarillion a few times, if I do say so myself ) and would like to see this become a mod. Though I am not so much a programmer, I would like to help with some of the "content" (Wonders, technologies, cities, etc., the finer details) if you don't mind.

One thing I would like to recommend is changing the Sauron worship to paganism (as someone previously said) and the Valar worship to Eru/Ilúvatar worship, who was the all-powerful creator god of Arda. No one really worshipped the Valar, at least those who knew that they were only the powers of the world, and not the creators. Anyone who did worship the Valar probably considered them "gods" and might as well be considered pagan.

Okay, that probably sounds contradicting but isn't it similiar to everyone on Earth having a different 'idea' of the higher power(s)?

Also, lays, which are basically song-tales, could be made into national wonders. There are quite a few importany lays/tales, two of my favourites being the Ainulindalë and the story of Beren and Luthien. I'm not quite sure how it would exactly work, but it's an idea.

I'll be searching through my books and websites for more ideas.

Great, we really need a person with extensive Tolkien knowledge, and books and other sources/references to help us out and give us ideas.

PM me, please.
