Are Seaports not working?

According to the description seaports are supposed to give 2 production for each sea tile worked by the city.

I'm playing a game with various seaports in my empire and the water tiles that are being worked by those cities without workboats don't have production icons on them.

Is this working as intended?

Only the tiles with workboat improvements, I'm afraid. As a result I'm always looking out for sites with 3+ sea resources. The Seaport is a terrific boost in that case.

I really like the seaport. In my last game I had a coastal wonderspam city with marble and 4 fish. With the ironworks, a seaport and the coastal production bonus from that commerce policy, it was churning out late game wonders pretty quick. So seaports are very situational but can be awesome. Which is nice, because most other buildings are so 'meh'...

Seaport and lighthouse are only worth building in cities with a minimum of 2 sea resources, if at all.

Seaports work differently than lighthouses. A lighthouse gives +1 food on any water tile. Seaports give +2 production on sea resources--fish, pearls, whales, oil.

You misquoted the descriptions - resources only. ;)

Not really. They're more like seaports. Use as appropriate. I like that you don't just build everything at every city - it puts more thought into it.

Yea but what are the odds of working a non resource Sea tile

Pretty slim given how crappy they are in this game. You're better of using that 2 food to run a merchant specialist (when you run out of land tiles). Will let you save some happy for other cities that have better tiles to work.

People do realize that there is not always CS food? I agree it needs to be nerfed, but people talk about it as though it is free and costs nothing. IN my current game 1 martime CS is alive of 12 and it is allied to the giant AI blob.

Now in other cases when there are 2 or 3 you can get early food is indeed meaningless.

No-one said it was free. But even though getting hold of it does need some financial management, it is *cheap*. At the price. Yeah, not having any maritimes can be a problem, but I've gone and liberated a couple for that reason and you get a bonus with them for that too...

I tend to disagree. I have found that building the free +gold buildings in every city, one monument, one library and one colosseum is really set in stone every game I play. Beyond that I will build some or all of the +production buildings, if I'm going science the +science buildings and if I'm going culture the +culture buildings. I've found that there's less incentive to specialize cities like in past games.
